Third Person POV

Flashback**** 9yrs old

It's been a few months since Lily has lived in the Leaf. At first it was difficult for her to adjust, but now you could find her sitting in a tree almost all the time, just like today. Her eyes shined bright with curiosity as she hung upside down, staring into the closed eyes of young Shikamaru who was sitting on the branch below her.

The said boy let out a sigh, and opened his eyes slowly. "What is it?" He drawled out, knowing that he wasn't going to be able to take a nap today. Everytime he spent time with Lily, the act of sleeping was merely imposible. Still, he was fond of the girl, and couldn't help but feel amused everytime he saw her. Little did he know that his indolence would soon rub off on her.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked, sitting in front of him.

He let out a sigh; That's Lily for you, always asking questions. That was the girl's way when she was a little kid, curious and loquacious, atleast around her friends.

"I'm thinking about how a green-eyed little girl is preventing me from my sleep." He answered.

"Who, Sakura?" She guessed, feigning ignorance. Shikamaru couldn't help but smirk when Lily did. Then she pouted, crossing her arms,"C'mon Shika the sun is up, and you're not getting any younger. Let's do something fun!"

"If you want to 'have fun', why don't you go find Naruto." He suggested, to him 'fun' was sleeping in all day. The only reason he wasn't in his bed was because he didn't want his mother nagging him about how lazy he is.

Lily rolled her eyes, and huffed, blowing her bangs up in the process. "Naruto is annoying."

"I still hang out with you." Shikamaru shot.

"Touchê..." She mumbled,"Yeah, but I get along with you. Everytime I hang out with him we have fun, but we always end up arguing."

"Maybe because you finally found someone who is equally annoying as you are." The Nara closed his eyes, ending the conversation. Lily rolled her eyes at him. "Keep rolling your eyes, maybe you'll find a brain back there."

She stuck her tongue out at him, and crossed her arms, then saw something out of the corner of her eye. It was Sasuke, his back facing them as he walked to who knows where. His hands were stuffed in his pocket, and she furrowed her brows.

"Hey... Shika?" She called. The brunette opened his eyes once again.

"What do you want now?" He whined, earning a punch in the shoulder from Lily.

"Why is he like that?" She inquired.

"Who?"

"Uchiha, why is he always like that. You know? Alone, and angry."

"You mean you don't know?" The Nara rose a brow, to which she shook her head. "His whole clan was killed, by his own brother."

Lily stared down at the Uchiha, who was barely visible,"I wish I could help him."

"Somethings are better left alone, Lily." Shikamaru stated, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder.

She shook her head, pushing his arm away. "Well, if something is broken do fix it or do you just leave it alone?"

He stared at her for a moment, studying her green eyes.'This kid... She never fails to suprise me.'

"Well..." She waited, bringing him back to his senses.
