Chapter 9 - Families

Ross' POV

Melody fell asleep on my shoulder while I was carrying her home. It was adorable to see her sleeping.

I didn't go to the park anymore. Seeing Melody was walk enough.

And after maybe 10 minutes of walking, I got tired and sat on a bench. I laid Melody down on the bench and kept her head on my lap as I pulled out my phone and texted Vanessa.

Ross: Hey, still awake?

Vanessa: I am now 😜

Ross: Sorry 😂 But, can I ask you something?

Vanessa: Sure.

Ross: Would you kill me if I took someone home?

Vanessa: ...Who is it? 👀

Ross: It's a little girl I found on the street. She's probably 4 years old and she got lost looking for her mom. She couldn't tell me exactly what happened since she can't talk that well... But, what she said was that a man came into her house and took her mother away.

Vanessa: Oh wow...

Ross: Can I bring her?

Vanessa: Of course. I'll be waiting for you downstairs. How far are you from the house?

Ross: Just 5 minutes away probably.

Vanessa: Great, I'll be down :)

Ross: Thanks Vanessa! Ttyl.

Vanessa: Ttyl💕

I put my phone down and carried Melody again and started to walk home.

"Are we there yet?" A little voice asked.

Mel woke up.

"Just a couple minutes," I said.

"Can I walk on my own?" She asked.

"Oh yes please!" I put her down and I was honestly so happy since she was getting heavy.

I held her hand and we started walking.

"Do you live with your band, Ross?" Melody asked again.

"Oh, actually I live with one of them. My brother Riker, his girlfriend Vanessa, and... Hopefully my girlfriend," I answered, referring to Laura.

"And your girlfriend is Ally, right?"

I laughed, "Her name's Laura. Laura Marano."

"Oh right! Okay so, Daddy Ross and Mommy Laura!"

"What?" I said looking at her.

"Nothing," she giggled.

After a few more steps, we finally reached home.

I rang the doorbell and Vanessa answered right away.

"Hey," she smiled. And then looked down to Melody. "Wow! Well aren't you a cutie!" Vanessa smiled. "Come in."

I walked inside and Vanessa held her hand to walk inside.

"Come here, sit." She sat on the couch and put Melody on her lap.

"What's your name sweetie?"

"Melody!"

"Aw, what a cute name. Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"

"Yes please!"

"Come with me to the kitchen. I'll get you some milk and cookies."

Mel giggled, "Yay!"

I smiled to how good Vanessa was with the kids.

"You're really good with kids," I decided to say out loud.

"Yeah well, when you're about to be a mom, you gotta know," Vanessa said as she poured a glass of milk.

Then suddenly, someone came walking down the stairs.

It was Laura.

"Look! It's Ally! It's Ally!" Melody came running to Laura and hugged her legs.

Laura laughed, "Well hello. Who's this?" She asked us.

"Oh, um... I found her at the park. She was crying and cold so I walked up to her, asking what happened, she said she got lost looking for her mommy since a guy came into her house and took her mom away," I said.

"Oh my goodness, are you okay?" Laura bent down and Melody faced her.

"Yes I am! You're gonna be my new mommy, right?" Mel asked.

"Well, no one can replace your mommy."

"But-But I don't have my mommy anymore!"

"They could find her...?"

"No! I don't wanna go back! I love mommy but when I stay home, all she does is fight with daddy! And then one night, a man came into our house holding a little black shooting thingy, and pointed it at daddy and took mommy away! The black shooting thingy was so loud, I don't wanna go back!" She cried into Laura's chest as she hugged her tightly.

Vanessa, Laura, and I looked at each other shocked.

"Hey... It's okay sweetie. You can stay with us," Laura said.

Melody stopped crying.

"Really?" She asked.

Laur smiled, "Yes."

"Thank you Ally!" She hugged Laura again.

Laura mouthed to me, "Ally?"

I laughed and walked to Melody.

"Mel, we talked about this. Her name's Laura," I said.

"Oh yeah! Mommy Laura and Daddy Ross!" She giggled again.

Laura raised an eyebrow at me.

"I'm sorry! She came up with that on her own," I told her.

She laughed, "It's okay Ross. Really."

"You're not mad anymore?"

"Of course I'm mad... But what you did for this little girl was really nice. I appreciate that."

"So... Are we good?"

Laura sighed, "Well... I know you made this promise a lot of times and broke it so-"

"Laura, Vanessa talked to me already. I know what I want."

Vanessa smiled at us.

"You do?"

"Yes, and I am a hundred percent sure, that it's you."

"Awww!" Vanessa laughed.

I smiled and kissed Laura lightly.

Once we pulled away I asked, "Can I hold Destiny now?"

"Oh, her name's Melody. Well, no. You can't have her she's mine," Laura joked.

"Laaauuraaaa," I whined. "Give her to me!"

"No way!" She started running around the kitchen with Melody laughing and I tried running after her.

"And I thought Riker and I were gonna be parents before you guys..." Vanessa smiled.

We both stopped running. "What?"

She laughed, "Nothing."

For those of you who are paranoid thinking that Melody is part of Maia's plan, she's not. 😂 Melody is 100% good :)
