-Your Pov-
You sat in the room, and then turned the pages in your book and did the best you could to focus on the words on the page, but that isn't really what caught your attention. If you were to be asked what you kept stealing glances at, then you would lie and say you kept looking up to see what the noise in the hall was, the sounds of members of the White Fang running back and forth, place to place, or you would say it was the sound of the blacksmith reforging or creating new weapons for the soldiers in the White Fang, or you would say you were looking outside at the rain that had begun in force. But if someone were able to look into your mind, then they would know that wasn't the case.
The glances you kept taking were at the only other person in the room with you, who herself was also reading a book. Even though you had known this girl your entire life, she was still a mystery to you, and someone you wanted to know more about, even as the answers kept eluding you. The one thing you were certain about her was that there was no one else in the world who was quite like Blake Belladonna, the girl you kept sneaking glances at, as if just looking at her would reveal everything you needed to know about her.
You weren't a faunas, you had been left behind by your parents, and then somehow ended up on Menagerie when you had gotten lost at sea. You had been lucky, and taken in by the Belladonna family, and raised like one of their own. Because of that, you had been allowed to join the White Fang when Ghira had formed it to be a peace group, and because of your upbringing, you grew to be great friends with Blake, and yet it was in times like this when you realized just how little you knew about her.
For example, you never knew why she read books like Ninjas of Love, even though she was one of the most dignified and intelligent young women you had ever known. You never knew how she could solve mystery novels only a few pages in, and you never knew why she was scared of dogs, seeing as how she was the only cat faunas who was. You never knew why she would stay up late to read, even though she knew she'd be exhausted the next day. And more than anything, you never knew why she was in a relationship with Adam.
For one thing, you weren't sure as to why she stayed with the White Fang, even after it had turned violent, and even after her parents had been forced out of it. You were here because she still was, but you couldn't help but sometimes wonder why Blake was still here. She was a brilliant young woman, and you couldn't help but wonder if she even realized how far gone the White Fang was from what it started out as, that the respect she always wanted the faunas to earn was now fear instead of genuine respect.
On top of that, you had to wonder why she was with Adam. Ever since the fiery redhead had come into the White Fang, you kept wondering what it was about him that made Blake follow his orders so blindly and loyally. He was passionate to be certain, but also reckless and out of control, and more than willing to throw the first punch, both at the humans he felt disrespected by, and other members of the White Fang. It didn't stop with the people he claimed to hate or the people he called his enemies either. In fact, the legendary temper people had talked about went right to someone he claimed to love, Blake.
The glances you kept stealing at her weren't because she was beautiful, though she was. Even when you had met her as a child, you had been blown away with her beauty, unable to form a word in response. No, the glances you kept sneaking were to see how bad the abuse truly was. Those amber eyes of her that shined so bright were turning black, the perfect cheekbones that came out when she smiled bleeding from cuts, and her lips which would say the most interesting things was split and bleeding.
And yet, each and every time you would ask she would say he was fine, and she always had an excuse for Adam. " Self-defense," she would say each time you asked, or, " He was worked up." There was an endless streams of words she would use to justify his unjustifiable actions, and you were heartbroken when she used those words even to defend the physical abuse he gave to her, and not just his senseless violence.
