The sun was warm on your skin that morning. Like a much needed blanket, it helped warm you, and it woke you gently.

You tried sitting up, but you were unable to do so. Your chest hurt, and you glided your hand across it to feel what you couldn't sit up to see.

Your shirt was off, and only bandages covered your torso. You could feel through the fittings just where the wounds were. As you laid there, you listened for your partner. You heard a small creek near by, and some birds chirping in the distance. You couldn't hear Kakashi though. You thought about calling to him, but you thought he'd be back shortly regardless so you stayed quiet. You tried turning over into a more comfortable position, but your arm bumped something warm. You turned your head and saw that he was laying there with you, sound asleep. His hair shined in the dim yellow rays of the morning sun. You looked to his eyes and noticed his eye lashes were shimmering. They were wet.

He started to stir in his sleep so you turned your head back to the sky and pretended to be asleep. Moments later you felt Kakashi get up, and heard him walk down towards the sound of the running water. Not too much longer and he came back up where you were. His footsteps stopped next to you. He was there quite a few moments before he decided to speak.

"You can stop faking it now." He mumbled in an exhausted voice.

You tired to continue to lay there in hopes he was bluffing over knowing you weren't actually asleep. But after a few seconds you felt a slight pain in your chest.

"Ouch!" You hissed. He had poked one of your wounds to get you to react. You were annoyed but couldn't help but giggle. The laughing however hurt even more and you quickly stopped.

You looked up to Kakashi and saw him starting to kneel next to you. His arms came down under yours and he lifted you easily to your feet without causing much pain. The two of you stood facing the creek for a moment. The hesitation in Kakashi's footing confused you, so you opened your mouth to ask him.

Just as your lips parted, Kakashi turned to you. His arms still supported you, but they were around your lower back now. Wrapped around you and squeezing softly. His face was so close to yours you struggled to look him in his eyes. Your body grew warm at the intensity of the situation. The two of you stayed that way for only a second before he spoke.

"If both my hands weren't necessary in holding you up, I could use one to pull my mask down and kiss you right about now." He whispered, his voice didn't falter and his eyes never wavered. He was serious.

Your hand moved towards his face without you thinking. You lightly touched your hand to his cheek, running your fingers down to his chin, removing the mask as they fell. You only had a moment to admire his soft, full lips before they smashed into yours. Your eyes stayed open in awe until he pressed his body closer onto you, and then they shut at the slight pain it caused you.

When you opened them again, Kakashi was still holding you. He gazed into your eyes as if he were looking into your heart. His cheeks were a light pink and his mouth was still slightly open. You brought your hand up again, shuffling his mask back up over his chin to the top of his nose.

"..(y/n).." he murmured under his breath.

You were just as surprised as he was. Your heart was beating rapidly and your breath was short and quick. No matter how much of a boost that kiss had given you, it took more out of you than you received. Kakashi felt this and repositioned himself to support you better. He waddled you down to the creek for you to get a drink.

After a while of silence in the dense woods, you spoke to him.

"Thank you.. for the water, Kakashi."

"Well you did take some pretty gnarly claws to your chest for me, so it's well deserved." He smiled at you with his response.

You looked down at your bandages. They were fitted comfortably and you couldn't see any blood leaking through them.

"Wait...how did..KAKASHI!!" You grew red with embarrassment. "YOU put these dressings on??"

"Well.. yeah? Who else is here to do it?" He answered back, smiling a cheesy, guilty smile. "Besides, it was my pleasure." He smirked.

Your face was red as a tomato at this point. Kakashi has seen your bare chest while you were unconscious. You felt your mind start to drift into imagination but you quickly fought it off.

"Pffff. Won't happen again." You replied, trying to sound annoyed.

"Oh is that so?" Kakashi grabbed your waist with one hand, and slid his other hand onto your shoulder. He grasped lightly at a piece of tape, pulling it gently. Your dressings grew slightly looser.

"KKKAAAKAAASHHIIII!!" You screamed.

Instantly he was on the floor, laughing his heart out. You realized then he really just loved to tease you.

After moments of you standing there annoyed, and him rolling in the dirt, he sat up and looked out into the forest.

"This will have to be our day off, since you went and got yourself hurt. We'll use today to rest and enjoy each other's company before we head off again." He spoke in a more serious tone. "I was hoping we could have spent the day in the city but as long as I'm with you I'm happy with it."

His words struck your heart. Maybe he's as happy being with you as you are with him.

"Oh! That reminds me." He spring up as he spoke. "I got you something."

He walked back to where the camp was. As he was returning to you, you saw in his arms was the little white rabbit from the night before. Kakashi's eyes were smiling so much they were nearly shut. He was proud of that little thing. Before he reached you, it jumped out of his arms and hopped toward you, jumping into your lap.

You couldn't help but smile at the little guy as you stroked his back and ears. You seemed to play with him forever, and realized you were completely ignoring kakashi's presence. Lifting your head and looking towards Kakashi, you expected him to look pouty or annoyed with you. Instead, he sat under a tree close by, with his little book in his hands. With a closer look, you noticed he wasn't reading it, but was watching you. The look on his face was one you had never seen before.

His eyes were relaxed and glistened in the sun. The top of his cheeks were rosey, and his hair tumbled in the breeze. The look on his face was one of love and compassion. He was looking at you.

Once he realized you were looking back, he shoved his face quickly into his book.

The rest of the day went on, sitting by the creek with Kakashi and the rabbit he had saved. The two of you had a meal together and then laid down under the burning sky.

As you laid there, you felt a warm sensation on your hand. It was Kakashi's hand. His fingers intertwined into yours without him looking. His focus stayed on the red and orange sky. You noticed his face was pink, possibly because of the hues of light bouncing off the sun, but probably because he was embarrassed. Instead of teasing him though, you laid there and enjoyed it just as much as he did.
