CHAPTER 3
Evie's POV // Nice to Meet You

The next day was filled with lots of rest and catching up with Nora. We went to the spa with the intentions of just getting our nails done. But by the time we left, my hair was considerably shorter and a few shades of blonde lighter.

Nothing like ending a long term relationship to make you drastically change your appearance.

The day wound into afternoon and I started preparing dinner for the small group of guests that would be coming over to celebrate Nora's return home.

Our friends started to trickle in slowly, and wine glasses were poured as I continued to cook dinner.

I don't drink anymore. I would never have more than a few glasses of wine here and there, but after seeing how drinking changed Jaxon's life and essentially took over our relationship, I couldn't stand the thought of it so I cut it out of my life.

It's not up to me to run my friends lives, but i'm always secretly scared of it happening again and losing another one of the people I value most. As the wine glasses are passed around, I stuck to my glass of sparkling water with two limes.

Nora is beaming from ear to ear, telling stories from her trip to all of our friends when I receive a text.

Beck: Hey sorry i'm running late, would it be ok if I bring a guest? I know it's last minute but he's a close friend of mine and he just got into town. We were supposed to go out tonight, but I was really looking forward to meeting your sister.

Me: Sure that's fine! :) Just hurry. Everyone else is already here, lol.

Beck: ;) We're on our way

Less than 5 minutes later, there is a knock on the door.

I stir the pot on the stove one last time before I turn off the burner and walk to the door.

"I'll get it!" I yell, before Nora can get up to do it.

I open the door, finding Beck smiling as always and holding a carrot cake in a white box from the local bakery.

"You didn't have to bring anything!" I say, rolling my eyes at him.

"My mom always told me I couldn't show up to someones house empty handed, and I was in the mood for cake." He says and we both laugh.

Just then I see his friend step up onto the porch behind him. Beck shifts out of the way to make room, and i'm met with the familiar surprised face of Niall Horan.

My jaw slightly parts in shock, mimicking the look on Niall's face.

"How's the head?" He smiles, a chuckle suddenly escaping his lips.

I cover my face in embarrassment as we both laugh.
