Chapter 90
Oh Why You Wearin' That... | part II
"Evie, I—" Beck's voice broke me through my utter shock and brought me back to reality.
My jaw snapped shut from the wide open position it had fallen in earlier and if looks could kill i'm sure the pure rage that coursed through my body would have made my sister a widow.
"Don't." I stopped him. "I'd like a word with you in the kitchen." I said shortly, just above a whisper to not make a scene and ruin the entire party for everyone else.
I stormed right through Nora and Beck and right past Jaxon and made a bee-line for the kitchen where I immediately started pacing as I waited for Beck to come in after me.
"Evie, I—" He starts and I stop him again.
"No! Beck, I thought we had a deal?! I know you want to be his friend, but this cannot keep happening! It can't! That's why I'm moving! Because crap like this keeps happening! Do you not understand that?!" I yell, returning to my pacing and running my fingers through my previously well shaped curls. "I've never asked you to choose between us, Beck. But from the outside in, you have to understand that this looks like you keep spitting in my face."
That was a low blow, and I hate that. But this has happened a few too many times now for me to be okay with overlooking it anymore.
"I know, Ev..." He sighs. "Ev, you know that's not what I meant, I just--" He quickly defends.
"Why?" I ask in a whisper, interrupting him in the middle of his defense.. "I just don't understand, why..."
"He's barely been at our house in two days. When I got home tonight Nora said she hadn't seen him at all and I just knew something was up..."
"Beck..." I sighed, mentally begging him not to say what came next because it would make me feel like an awful person if he did.
"I called him a handful of times with no answer, so I told Nora to come here and I went to find him."
"Do I have to ask where you found him or are his blood shot eyes still the same indicator they were a year ago?" I asked, coldly.
"He'd only had a couple beers when I found him and he was beating himself up for it. Evie, I know you said you didn't want to know about his progress but, he really has been doing so well, but relapse happens and—"
"No, Beck. I'm sorry, but i'm done reliving this over and over and forgiving him time and time again, and then having someone make me feel sorry for him. Save it." I sigh, shaking my head in annoyed defeat. "I just want this night to be over. I want this week to be over. I can't wait to get out of here."
"Evie..." Beck draws out in disbelief. "You've never wanted to leave Nashville this bad..."
