Chapter 26
Evie's POV // Our Song

Today has been like that highs and lows game that you play at the dinner table as a kid.

Highs: It's the last day of the festival, so that's sure to be exciting. Niall and I announced our relationship, receiving tons of love. Celebrating with a french toast breakfast. Catching up with Liam.

Lows: It's the last day of the festival, so that's kinda sad. Niall's leaving soon. The future is uncertain, but then again isn't it always?

It's been a long day, but we've still got a long ways to go.

Niall and I put our emotional breakdown behind us and move forward with the afternoon, finishing all preparation for tonights shows.

Beck and I have worked tirelessly for this music festival to make it perfect and I could not be more proud because it has gone off without a hitch.

This has been the best week of my life, both professionally and personally.

Beck, being the kind man that he is and also probably picking up on the ticking time clock on Niall and I due to our extra clinginess all afternoon, said that after our pre-show checks were done I was free to enjoy the evening with Niall until it was time for the closing ceremony.

I thanked him profusely, and after telling him to call me if he needed me and knowing he wont unless it's a literal emergency, Niall drug me off to enjoy the festival —his eyes sparkling with excitement which was a nice change to the teary look he adorned earlier.

Our first stop was the bar. Niall ordering a beer for himself and an Arnold Palmer for me. The drink named after a golf legend gave me another peek into Niall's life as he excitedly told me about the time he met Mr. Palmer in Augusta, Georgia at the Master's Golf Tournament.

I sipped on the sweet beverage, enjoying it almost as much as I enjoyed listening to him talk.

He insists that, come April, I must go with him to the next tournament. Which is another set plan I can add to my calendar, and i'm happy to do it as it means a sure date that I'll be with him.

I love how passionate he is for something outside of his career. He loves the game, and he tells me all about his golf management company and his plans to start a non-profit soon to fund children's cancer research —something else he's passionate about.

We bounce back and forth between sound stages, hearing a mix of pop music where we sang together, EDM where we danced like lunatics, and now landing upon something a little more romantic and intimate...James Arthur.

James is a favorite of mine, and now he's the author of the song Niall and I call 'ours', which makes him that much more special.

We're at his sound stage 10 minutes before he steps on stage. Niall makes sure we get here in time to get good seats in the VIP section, and we do seeing as we're front row.

The show is fantastic as expected. When the last song begins, it's what we've been waiting for all night. Can I Be Him.

The sun is setting, providing the perfect golden hour glow as James sings the song and it takes me back to this time yesterday when Niall and I were on our way to the pier. My mind goes back there, feeling so content and happy to be with him and so unaware of the question weighing on Niall's mind, and yet unknowingly needing the confirmation just as much as he did.

"This is our song, isn't it?" Niall whispers against the shell of my ear, before kissing just below it which makes me smile.

He's got his arms wrapped around my waist, pulling my back to his front, and his head nuzzled into the crook of my neck.

"Yeah, it is." I smile, turning towards him slightly, giving him more access as he kisses up and down my neck and jaw bone and sings quietly in my ear.

So far, I've noticed that Niall get's extra lovey when he's drunk. Which is a welcome change to what I had become accustomed to in my previous relationship.

I smile blissfully, leaning into his embrace and savoring every second of this.

We stand, tangled in each others arms and sing along. I know he's reliving last night just as much as I am.

After James ended the show we 'accidentally' stayed, sharing a romantic kiss...ok a few romantic kisses while waiting for the crowd of people to disperse before we made our exit.

We exit the VIP seating tent and start walking with no sure destination in mind.

My phone rings, deciding our destination for us as it's Beck calling me to the main stage for the closing ceremony.

"I gotta go close a show." I press my lips together, displaying the nerves I feel in my entire being. "You coming with me?" I ask, biting my lip.

"Wouldn't be anywhere else." Niall says firmly, gently rubbing his thumb over my lip to stop my chewing and tilting my chin up so my lips meet his. I stop and stare at him for a minute, his smile mirroring mine.

He bends over, pointing to his back and motioning for me to hop on.

"Are you sure?" I chuckle.

"Yeah! Hop on, i'll carry you." He smiles.

I shrug, complying with his request as I jump up and he hoists me onto his back. I wrap my arms securely around his neck as he starts to walk.
