Chapter 62
Evie's POV // Bright Side

Nora and I were tasked with going to the attic to dig out the Christmas tree ornaments while mom and dad cleaned up form breakfast.

I left Niall to help with Emma's homework, but when I walked through the living room they looked more like they were goofing off than actually preparing. They look like they're becoming fast friends and I love it.

I'm already completely head over heels in love with Niall, but watching him interact with my family (especially Emma), makes my heart swell.

He's so nice to everyone he meets, but him making an effort to build a relationship with Emma definitely means a lot to her. And it means the world to me.

I'm very protective of my little sister, as an self-respecting older sister would be. When I was with Jaxon, he was close with my family, but never really spent any time with Emma. After we broke up, Emma told me that she missed me while I was with Jaxon. To her, it seemed like I was never around because I was always with Jaxon. Even when Jaxon and I spent time at my parents house, I usually spent it with Jaxon and not spending as much one-on-one time as I should have with Emma. This realization only added to my heartbreak at the time, but I made it a point to re-build my relationship with Emma and make sure that she always knows i'm here for her.

"Beck!" Nora yells down the attic stairs, breaking me out of my train of thought.

"Yeah, babe?" He calls up.

"We've found the ornament boxes. Can I hand them down to you?" She asks, tucking her curly brown hair behind her ears.

That's always been her 'thing'. I guess I bite my lip, and she tucks her hair behind her ears.

"Ok. What's on your mind?" She asks, smirking at me.

"Hmm?" I ask, shaking my head to clear my thought again.

"See. You're distracted. We looked for these ornament boxes for 20 minutes and you barely said two words. But you're smiling, so it must be good." She smiles, sitting down on the attic floor and looking up at me to join her.

"We're having this conversation here? On the attic floor?" I laugh.

"Yep. Nobody will interrupt us up here. Just like old times." She smiles, reminiscently.

I give in to her, sitting on the dirty floor and trying to remember all the good times we had up here instead of how dirty it is. How did we not notice how gross it was up here when we were teenagers?

"So? Out with it. Do I need to send Beck for snacks?" She giggles.

"No!" I roll my eyes. "It's not snack level serious. I'm just really happy to have Niall here. And seeing him with everybody, especially Emma, means a lot to me. Guess i'm just feeling a little sappy..."
