Chapter 63
Niall's POV // Make You Happy
I had played it extremely cool up until it came time to finally meet Evie's parents this morning.
Suddenly the gravity of it all hit me and I was terrified of what they would think of me. I finally understood what Evie was feeling before she met my family.
Evie smiled at me as I walk in the room and I knew everything was ok. She happily introduced us and her mum hugged me in a way much like how my mum hugged Evie when they met. I bet they would get along nicely.
I made a note to ask Evie about getting our families together so everyone could meet, and smiled at the thought. That would be a dream.
The hardest part was over after the introductions to her parents.
Then Emma and I made our introductions. Emma is the sassy spit fire who is the miniature, less timid version of her older sister.
I briefly met Emma the same way I did her parents, over FaceTime the day that Evie and I announced our relationship. Emma's shrieks of excitement were enough for me to know that she's a fan.
Emma and Evie are really close and Evie has told me that Emma texts her often to get the details on us.
It's great to finally meet her in person, but once I did it was nothing like I expected. She was completely put together, and like I said, such a spit fire! She has all of Evie's sass, but none of the timidity...which makes things extra interesting because nothing is holding her back from saying whatever is on her mind.
For someone who is a fan of mine and shrieked loud enough to break glass when she found out her sister was dating me, she's completely cool and collected now and giving me just as much hell as the lads do.
Before I knew it I was being challenged to help her with her college homework, and we were off to the living room. I don't remember the last time I actually studied for a test, but this seemed like a good way to get to know Emma and I figured it would mean a lot to her and to Evie. And I'm happy to help in any way that I can.
Well that was hours ago. Emma and I been in the living room for a large part of the day while Evie's parents have busied around the house collecting all of the Christmas decorations. Charlotte brought Emma and I sandwiches for lunch so we didn't have to stop studying.
Truthfully though, not a ton of studying has actually happened.
Emma talks far more than Evie does and she's hilarious. We've talked and joked around most of the day and only gotten a few note cards written between the two of us.
By the time the sun is going down, we've officially decided that we're best friends now and Emma is determined to find us matching hoodies or something to celebrate the occasion.
Like I said, she's hilarious.
I don't mind it a bit though, because seeing the look on Evie's face when I notice her watching us from the doorway makes my heart swell.
Evie and I make eyes at each other for a moment, exchanging smiles from our respective spots until she speaks up.
"Hey Emma, mom needs you to help her set the table for dinner." Evie says, walking from the doorway to the couch.
I'm sitting on the floor, with my legs spread out under the coffee table and my back resting against the couch. Evie settles into the couch directly behind me, with a leg on either side of me. I turn to kiss her knee cap and then smile up at her.
"Ok." Emma nods, hopping up from where she had been sitting criss-cross-applesauce next to me on the floor. "See ya best friend." She laughs, high giving me and doing our little hand shake we just came up with before she walks out of the room.
"Hi there." I smile, tilting my head back to look up and Evie who is already looking down at me with her palms on each of my cheeks.
"Hi." She smiles, leaning down to kiss my lips slowly.
"Where have you been all day?" I ask, stretching my arm to look at my watch and see what time it is.
"Kind of everywhere." She laughs. "Nora and I baked with mom for a little while, then we got sent to the attic to search for Christmas ornaments and then we just hung out and chatted over coffee like we always do." She explains.
"I would ask what you've been up to but, by the looks of it, it seems like you've been making yourself a new best friend today." She giggles, cocking an eyebrow at me.
"Oh yeah! We're officially best friends now. I mean you saw, we've got a handshake and everything." I laugh.
"You know you're making her like, whole life right?" She asks, laughing as she slides off of the couch to sit on the floor next to me.
Her smile is so wide that her eyes are practically sparkling. That's my favorite smile on her, and I love that i'm able to give that to her. The only thing I want to do is make her happy all the time.
"I do." I shrug. "But she's a really good kid and she's hilarious, so I don't mind adding one more best friend to my life." I smile, pausing before I whisper. "And it makes you happy too and that's most important to me."
"You sure know how to make a girl cry, Horan." Evie smirks before kissing me lips.
"Just happy tears, love." I kiss her forehead, when her head rests on my shoulder.
"Just happy tears." She repeats. "Very very happy tears."
