Chapter Forty-Five

Today was going to be a good day. I would make sure of it. I'd woken up early for a quick run around the block, taken a shower, and then used some of Sunny's makeup tips to cover my nose. Not only would I be returning to school today, but I'd be heading back to work as well. How I was going to go to this party after work was beyond me, but afterward, I was staying with mom at the hospital. So I sort of had a busy day ahead of me to prepare for.

"You're in a better mood than I thought you'd be," Liam observed.

"Really you think?"

"Yeah, so does this mean you and Reggie had a good talk last night?"

"Yeah, we did."

"Thats good but now why are you sounding sad?"

"It didn't exactly go like maybe it should have."

"How's that?"

"We sort of talked about our shortcomings but it didn't really go further than that. He feels like he's a bad boyfriend which is just not true. Then we ended up having a really nice talk and he well I stayed on the phone with him till he fell asleep."

"How romantic," Liam smiled.

"Are you picking up Maggie today?" I changed the subject.

"Actually her moms bringing her by here."

"Really?"

"Yep."

"Why's that?"

"I have no idea but I won't complain."

"Me either."

Maggie arrived five minutes later and we headed to school. She was talkative but something seemed off about her I couldn't place. I wondered if she'd had a fight with Michael or Carmen. No one texted me this morning apart from Reggie texting me to have a good day and apologizing for falling asleep on me which was appreciated and made me smile. Still, we arrived at school too quickly.

"You ready for this?" Maggie asked.

"Does my nose look okay?"

"Looks fine."

Alright then let's go."

It seemed like everyone was staring at me as I walked through the parking lot and I wondered if this was true or if I was imagining things. Maybe Maggie was just being nice and I had overlooked how horrible my nose really looked. A few people pointed and whispered about me but that was relatively normal. I reached my locker having flashbacks of Melinda shoving my face into it.

I looked around quickly just to make sure she or no one else were going to replicate it. Obviously, it hadn't healed from the other day and probably wouldn't for a few more days.

At least Liam and Maggie were with me now. I quickly grabbed my books and decided to hang out instead of heading to English class.

With any luck, Zayn would be too ashamed to show up in class today.

"Ariel?"

We turned to see Eric which wasn't exactly a good thing but at least he wasn't his son.

"What is it, Mr. Styles?" I asked.

"Can you come to my office, please?"

"Sure," I frowned as this wasn't the way for me to avoid attention.

I shot Liam and Maggie a look as I followed him into his office. My stomach dropped as I followed him in his office and saw Melinda already seated and giving me a scowl.
