Chapter Sixty-Eight

After my slight disagreement with Liam, I was happy everything ended up okay between us. Once we met up with Maggie at our lockers she explained she was also worried about the parent teachers conference. Both her parents would be attending and she wasn't looking forward to that. They were hard on her and she always failed to be perfect. I only briefly saw Michael or Carmen but I could sense this in their personalities at least how they behaved toward her.

Interestingly enough maybe we should all be thankful our parents cared enough to come? Nick's parents were always out of town and would never have the time to make such a meeting. He'd get access to their money as he always did no matter what. How he didn't end up more spoiled than he was I'd never know. With Miles not being spoiled, it made perfect sense. Sunny's parents wouldn't be sober long enough and Reggie's wouldn't make much of an effort either.

"She's probably going to tell them about how I got detention," Maggie whined.

"You never told them about that?" Liam raised an eyebrow.

"No, because Mrs. Hollowell blamed me for something I didn't do."

"You got sent to the office but you didn't exactly get sent to detention did you?"

"We are talking about a completely different time ."

"When did you get detention?"I asked not remembering this at all.

"Clearly you don't pay attention," she frowned.

"Come on Mrs. Hollowell will probably say bad things about everyone," Liam comforted her.

"She hates us specifically," she whined.

"Yeah, but she was nice that one time I got hurt," I pointed out.

"So she had a heart one-time big deal"

"It will be okay," her boyfriend promised her.

"My parents won't see it that way."

"My mom won't see it that way," he sighed.

I was certainly sympathetic to both of them but I was also freaking out over here. I hadn't told Maggie yet that my mom had officially agreed to the meeting but it would happen. Unless something today changed in and I really hoped it did. Nothing bad of course because I didn't need any more of that in my life. I was heading to English when I ran into George. Literally ran into him. Why did I insist on doing these things? He smiled kindly at me.

"What's up Ariel?"

"Going to class," I smiled.

Really what else would I be doing at this point?

"You're going so early."

"I don't want to be late."

"Right, so you left your friends that quick."

"Yep, they don't have this class."

"What class?"

"English."

"Cool."

"Yep."

Not only did I want to go to class and not be late doing so but I needed to see Alec beforehand just to gauge his reaction. I didn't mind talking to George but I was a little distrustful of him after listening to all those warnings from others. It made less and less sense he'd be interested in talking to me let alone in dating me. I should be careful and I should take it with a grain of salt.

"I need to let you go but I wanted to ask you something real quick if that's alright."

"Yeah sure."
