Chapter Sixty-Four

It was true Zayn had actually had a semi-normal conversation with Liam and me for that matter. It had gone well as it hadn't ended in a fight or anyone being knocked over but I still didn't expect him to offer for us to work on the project today. I suppose he usually did when things were going well between us. Though I'd already worked on it today I agreed to his request. I just didn't know how we were doing this.

Zayn: So I have a favor to ask.

Now he was asking for a favor? I didn't think he ever asked for favors and I didn't know what he'd want me to do. Was this why he offered to do the project today then? I'd already accepted but now I was afraid to find out what he could want me to do. Surely it wouldn't be that bad.

Ariel: What?

Zayn: Just come meet me after school today in the parking lot.

Ariel: Okay?

Zayn: When you do just trust me and get in the car. We'll go to my house and work on the project.

Ariel: Why do I need to trust you?

Zayn: You'll see.

Now I was scared. Why would he be acting like this? The thing about Zayn was though he could be a jerk and slightly scary when he was angry he didn't seem the type to put me in danger or anything. If he didn't like me he liked Mom and Kaylin enough not to. Besides I knew he wouldn't do that. So I'd just have to trust him then. I just worried about what this would be.

"So you're sure you should do this?" Liam questioned as we exited the gym after P.E.

I looked back at where Adam and Emma were just to make sure they weren't listening before I spoke.

"It can't be that bad."

"It's Zayn," he narrowed his eyes.

"He wouldn't put me in danger," I reasoned.

"We don't know that," he argued.

"You really don't like him," Maggie frowned.

"No I don't and I have a lot of reasons not to. Do we need to go over them again?"

"No we don't just wish me luck," I laughed as we headed to our lockers and into the parking lot.

That's when I paused. Zayn and Melinda were talking near his car and I didn't want to intrude. That aside I didn't really want to see my ex-best friend if I didn't have to. Liam and Maggie had stopped with me and were surveying the scene as well before looking back at me. I started to consider walking away so they didn't see me when Zayn turned to me.

"Ariel come here."

I didn't really want to but I walked toward him feeling uncomfortable under Melinda's steely glare. For some reason, she didn't look too happy right now and I assumed it was because of me. She must know Zayn invited me to her house today. Granted I think she already knew we worked on the project together and since she did I didn't know why she'd choose now to be upset about it. Unless she didn't know he gave me rides or something. A little understandable but still.

"Zayn why do you have to do this today," she said in annoyance.

"Because we need to get it done soon."

"Why are you even talking to her in the parking lot where people can see us?"

"Knock it off babe. She won't enjoy this either I'm sure."

Won't enjoy what? Already I didn't enjoy being near her.

"If this is a bad time we can work on it later," I reasoned.
