Chapter One Hundred-One

So Alec had sex and Alec used condoms. My English teacher had sex and used condoms. My godfather had sex and used condoms. My possible father had sex and used condoms. I was making a bigger deal out of this when I probably shouldn't be. At least he was being safe for goodness sake. The problem was how awkward this situation really was. I did not need to know these things.

This was my fault for even going into my room where I didn't belong. Thank God he didn't catch me. That would be an awkward situation and I still wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to look at him the same way. Looking around to see that no one was watching I  headed down to the last door and just before I reached it I heard a loud thump. What the heck? Mom? Maggie? Jane Doe?

"Hello?"

The sound stopped but then I heard it again.

"Hello?" I knocked.

Thump!

"Mom?"

Thump thump!

"Maggie?"

Silence.

Okay, something was in here and I was going to find it. I threw open the door to the darkroom and was met with silence. It was another bedroom but as I tried to turn on the switch it didn't work. Seriously? I heard another thump and I quickly walked over seeing a body laying on the floor.

"Oh my god!" I exclaimed getting on my knees toward it.

"Agh!"

"Agh!"

"Ariel!"

"Maggie?!"

"Yes! she seethed moving from her stomach to her knees. "What are you doing?"

"I thought you were dead or a body or something but I heard thumping in here. I was looking for you and mom and -what are you doing in here?"

"Snooping you?"

"Kind of the same thing."

"Sounds good because look what I found."

She pulled out a small tin and opened it to reveal photographs and she used her cellphone light so we could see. My first thought was to say that we shouldn't be doing this as these were his personal things he had hidden in a tin for a reason. However once more curiosity won out.

The first few pictures were more of the little boy I had to assume was Alec with the same woman and a man I assumed was his dad. Then I noticed pictures of a little girl. She looked like the man and woman and the little boy. Was this his little sister? Had they mentioned her before?

"You think this is Alec and his family?" Maggie asked.

"It would have to be."

"Wait look here he's with all of them again."

She held it up against the light and I saw she was right. It was a picture of all of them that was taken right at school. They all looked so young and happy I smiled. I moved to see if there was anymore when I stumbled on a picture of Alec holding a small baby in a pink blanket. Then two more of him holding babies in a blue blanket. Three of them. Then did that mean-

"You think that's him at the hospital with you guys?" Maggie asked.

"It must be."

"Ariel, isn't this you?"

It was a picture of me at about six years old taken outside a church we'd attended on Easter one year. I turned it around to see my mom's handwriting on the back and my eyes filled with tears. I looked to see he had a few more pictures of me, not many but just enough capturing my milestones. Mom had kept him updated on me at least a little bit throughout my life.
