-Frank's Fate-
Ch.7: Werewolf Shit

I had sat there and tried to wrap my head around everything.

We had literally been talking about this werewolf shit for hours, from things called Mates, a mates pull, shifting, traditional ages of shifting, Were laws, and the very real possibility of My sister shifting soon, dormant Wolves and apparently the possibility of a wolf going away if Weres don't shift often enough.

"Do you have any questions?" Pat asked carefully.

"So the baby?" I asked.

"Will be a Were for sure." Patrick said, "Even if Mariah didn't have the dormant gene, I am a full Were with a strong gene that comes from both my mother and my father so the baby would without a doubt inherit my gene alone...but as it stands the baby will be inheriting both of our Were genes."

"And what all will that entail?" I asked a little worried for the baby.

"Well different families are known to have various abilities." Braxton said now. "For my fathers family we are very strong...Patrick's dad's family was known for having amazing tracking abilities...and although the gene is dormant in Mariah, like Pat said, the familial were gene can actually spring forward since the baby's father(Patrick) is a full Were."

I took in a deep breath, "And is that because you two are...what did you call it, mates?"

"Well being mates just means we were drawn to each other immediately." Mariah said.

"Yeah, remember Mates are a Weres other half, like a soul mate or the love of your life...but just because we are mates doesn't mean anything...I could have easily had a baby with anyone who wasn't my mate and that baby would still be a Were because I'm a Were...it's just genetics...and the Were gene is the dominant gene."

"So...we know for sure when the baby turns 17 it will go through it's first shift." I said trying to make sure I understood it all.

They all nodded.

"After their first shift then they'll be able to shift when they need to or want to?" I asked.

Once again they nodded almost in unison.

"And though we're not certain...the chances of Mariah shifting during labor is a very real possibility." Braxton said.

"Before, during, or even after labor." Harper put in with obvious worry. "Again we don't have any solid answers on that front seeing as no one to our knowledge has ever gone through anything like this...but anything from the contractions, to actually pushing, or even the recovery after...any of that could be the thing to awaken her wolf."

"Is there any chance that she wouldn't shift?" I had to ask.

"Yes...but to be one hundred percent honest with you Frank, the chances are slim and that's why we are doing everything we can to prepare Mariah and ourselves now for anything that may happen on the day she goes into labor." Braxton said softly as he looked at my sister kindly.

Everything in me wanted to just grab my sister and pull her away from these freaks...I'm her older brother, I was suppose to protect her and I couldn't help but feel like somehow I fucked that up.

"You have to understand man...when I first met Mariah I never thought in my wildest dreams she'd carry the dormant gene." Patrick said. "If she was a full human and no Were genes at all then she'd have a normal pregnancy and we'd only have to wait until our kid turned 17 to shift and to be honest we wouldn't have even said shit to you...but now we have this new challenge to face and it's not just your sister's challenge but yours too...and we will be facing it all together, because like it or not you're family bro."

I blocked the rest of them out and walked up to my sister now, I looked only at her and made sure she only looked at me. "I just need to know you'll be okay...I don't care if you're with a dude that turns into a wolf, I don't care if you fucking sprout fur and a tail...I just need to know you're safe and happy." I said, my full fear and concern coming out now.

"I am absolutely happy Frank." she smiled softly. "But I can't lie to you...if I shift...it's gonna take it's toll on my body...but then again, so is having a baby."

I sighed heavily. "Well I'm here for you kid."

She hugged me and I hugged her back. I wish there was more that I could do but I knew this shit was outta my hands.

"So will I turn to?" I wondered.

"It's a possibility." Harper said. "Again, you'd have to go through something extreme to awaken the Were gene."

"So what if I went bungee jumping or sky diving?" I wondered.

Braxton and Patrick smiled a little knowing I was bullshitting a little but Harper simply shrugged, "again, it's a possibility."

"Oh but Frank..." This time my sister sounded with a huge smile, "The main reason we've even told you this...I mean other than you may or may not shift one day...is that you definitely have a mate out there somewhere"

"I do?" I asked unsure.

"We do know that ANYONE with a Were gene (Dormant or Active) does have a mate...it's just a matter of finding out who your mate is." Braxton filled me in.

"How will I know if I've found my mate?" I asked genuinely curious now, wondering if out of all the women I've had the pleasure of knowing in my time, could one of them have been my mate and I just let her go.

"Well if she's a Were, she'll definitely let you know you're her mate." Pat said smiling. "But much like yourself, she could carry the dormant gene...to which you'd have to both figure it out...Most of the time the tell-tell signs of mates are strong urges...or rather stronger than usual, like you want to talk to them more than anyone else before...you want to spend your time with them almost constantly..."

"But the biggest sign is the touch." Mariah said excitedly now.

"The touch?" I sounded.

Mariah smiled, "When two mates touch, skin too skin...theres this amazing feeling, its almost hot and lingering, like a vibrating electrical current and only your mate's touch has a way of making your whole body react in a way no one else ever has or will."

And as my sister spoke I couldn't help but think of one person...Ivy.

But that's crazy, I hardly know this girl, I mean...I only met her yesterday and she's suppose to somehow be my forever girl?

Then as if hearing my thoughts Pat spoke up, "and Mates...they sorta come at you out of no where, but once you meet your mate everything is just... instantaneous, it doesn't make sense how fast you'll love them, or how passionate you Two are even after you've only just met...that's just how it is with mates...they defy logic and reasoning but they're so worth it."

Just then my phone sounded indicating I had a new message. I looked down at the screen and saw an unknown number but read the message straight from the screen.

[Be there in 30 mins.]

"Hot date?" Mariah tried to tease.

"Actually yeah." I said.

"Only you would come into town and already have girls lined up to go out with." She chastised me.

"Be careful Frank." Braxton said.

Then Patrick spoke up again "Look man...we're not trying to tell you how to live your life, Goddess knows I'm the last one to say anything to anyone...but as a guy who has his own past...I was lucky my mate was forgiving...but not all mates are brother."

"Can't find my mate if I'm just holed up either." I pointed out.

He shrugged, "like I said... I can't tell you how to live your life."

"Well she'll be here in 30 minutes so as crazy as this has all been...can we table it for now?" I asked.

"If you need to talk we're all here for you." Braxton offered.

"Thanks." I said before they all left.

They had come over and we had spent all afternoon talking about this crazy shit...and now I was left with 30minutes to get ready all while trying to shake the supernatural thoughts from my head.
