chapter five
invitations.

Carlisle Cullen was ignoring Christina Swan, and it was painfully obvious. The young mother knew that it had to do with something that he was hiding about Bella's accident.

As soon as the Swan family had gotten home the day of Bella's accident, said girl has informed Christina about her theory of Edward Cullen saving her with superhuman strength. At first, Christina thought that Bella had really hit her head hard and that she was just imagining it all, but after a while, it made sense. Especially when Bella pointed out her dent on the side of her truck, the impact from Edward's body taking the blow away from Bella.

It still sounded ludicrous to Christina and she really didn't want to believe that anything was wrong with the Cullen family, but even she had to admit that the family of adoption looked too much alike to not have something going on.

Christina had told Bella to keep her out of the random information that the young Swan has found online; she wanted to be ignorant of what could be going on around her and her daughter. She moved down to Forks to be safe and to finally settle down with her daughter— not to be worried about conspiracy theories against her boss and his kids.

The older brunette did have to admit that it made her slightly curious as to what the big secret would be to make the doctor ignore her existence. He would politely give her a list of patients to check-up on during her shift— but nothing else. No other conversation, and back to last name usage.

"You look like someone ripped your only good pair of underwear."

Christina snorted out in laughter as she turned her head towards Darien. "Excuse me?"

"You look depressed, girl." Darien raised his eyebrows. "What's got you in a rut?"

Christina's smile dropped slightly. "It's nothing to worry about."

Darien hummed sarcastically. "It's that blond doctor— the one that everyone's head-over-heels for, isn't it?"

"I'm not head-over-heels for him," Christina corrected. "I'm not anything for him."

"I noticed he hasn't been acting as friendly towards you this week as he usually is," Darien continued, not believing her statement about her feelings. "Did you steal his last bottle of hair gel?"

Christina narrowed her eyes playfully. "Don't you have patients to check on?"

"Uh-uhh." Darien shook his head. "I'm on my lunch break."
