chapter twenty-three an impasse.
"Please, find me or call me if anythinggoes wrong today," Christina pleaded for the fifth time that morning.
Rosalie rolled her eyes lightly before pushing Christina out the front door. "Nothing is going to happen. Everything will be fine here."
The young mother deeply sighed. She glanced one last time towards her sleeping daughter's form on the couch. She knew that Rosalie would be able to protect her daughter more than anyone in Forks currently.
"Okay." Christina nodded finally. "I'll be home around four."
The blonde nodded her head. "We'll be here."
With one last sigh, Christina left her house and ran into the light mist. She quickly unlocked her car's door and sat in the driver seat. It only took a few minutes for the Range Rover to heat up enough for the vents to be warm. As soon as warm air hit Christina, she pulled out of the driveway and took off towards Forks Hospital.
She bit her lip as she thought back to the call that she had received from Carlisle this morning. She was elated about hearing from him, but the subject wasn't one to celebrate over. In confirmation of Rosalie's words yesterday, the tracker had changed course and was heading towards Phoenix. The rest of the Cullens, except Rosalie, we're making their way towards Phoenix. Edward had plans to take Bella away, while they searched around the city.
Christina was worried about how well James had been able to escape their grasp running around Washington, nevermind Phoenix. There weren't a lot of places to hide in the city. The young mother just hoped that they would catch him, and quickly.
"Look at my favorite person."
Christina looked over her shoulder as she finished pulling down her scrub top over her shirt. Darien was just entering the break room, with his scrubs hung over his arm.
"Coming, or going?" Christina asked, pushing her bag into her locker. She closed the metal door before leaning against it, giving Darien her full attention.
"Coming," he sighed. He pointed his finger towards the brunette. "What is your boyfriend doing?"
Christina furrowed her brows in mock confusion, even though her heart jumped into her throat. "What boyfriend?"
