chapter sixteen flight.
The rain had finally stopped coming down. Christina had ended up going back to the house and grabbing another flashlight, with Embry following behind her to make sure she got home safely. Once she entered the house, he disappeared back into the woods into the opposite direction they came from. Jared continued to search deeper into the woods. The mother was starting become manic, and it showed.
"Christina?" Charlie called as the mother rummaged through the drawers. He walked into the kitchen to see her tear stricken face. "Are you okay?"
She sniffled as she turned to look at him. "No, Annie's missing."
"What?" Charlie exclaimed. "How— where?"
"I don't know," she cried. "I've been searching for an hour, and still no lead."
Charlie gripped onto his flashlight on his hip. "Let's go."
Christina nodded her head as she followed him out of the house. She gripped onto the flashlight tightly following after Charlie as he called for back up on his radio. She was reminded about the last search party that got sent out because Bella was lost. She tried to relax somewhat as she remembered that she was found because of the wolves— and she had them out in the forest searching.
After another fifteen minutes of walking around, Charlie got a call telling him that back up had arrived. The father and daughter duo walked back towards the house, and explained the situation— or she let Charlie explain. She couldn't get a word out with how many tears were falling down her face.
Christina continued to watch from the porch as more people arrived to help out. She stared at the familiar blue truck that pulled in behind Charlie's cruiser, barely having the energy to wave at the men that walked towards her father.
Sue gathered the young women in her arms as Harry immediately went towards Charlie to help send out search parties, along with Seth following after him.
"We'll find her," Sue promised lightly. She rocked the mother in her arms, letting her tears soak in her shirt. "She'll be okay."
Christina watched from over Sue's shoulder as Sam and Emily pulled up in his truck. He gave the young mother a singular nod before running off into the woods, following the last bunch of deputies that went out. Emily beelined for Sue and Christina, easily wrapping the girl in her arms in a warm hug.
