chapter twenty-two
impatience.

Christina glanced down at her phone for the hundredth time since the Cullens left to track down the tracker. There were still no updates on how anything was going, and the brunette couldn't tell if that was good or bad.

She had called Bella a few times, but she hadn't heard anything either. The conversations were usually short, with quick updates on how everything was going, just in case any wandering ears were surrounding the house.

Christina trusted Rosalie to protect her and her family, but that was also if she didn't get outnumbered. Bella has explained over the phone about the interaction between them and Laurent before the dreaded vampire left to visit the Cullens 'cousins' up in Alaska; to learn about their lifestyle further. In the end, that only left the tracker, James, and his mate, Victoria.

It was pure luck that Christina had the next day off, but she wasn't sure how she was going to get out of working the next day. She couldn't just leave the security of her home while under a protection plan. She hardly wanted to let Charlie out of her sight while he went to work. She would have to ask Carlisle what to do whenever he called.

Christina sighed lightly when Annie requested the same movie to be played twice, before rewinding the DVD until it got to the beginning.

"This again?"

Christina jumped out of her relaxed position at the sound of Rosalie's voice. She held her hand to her chest as she looked over her shoulder towards the blonde vampire behind her.

Rosalie smirked lightly at her ability to scare Christina. "Sorry." She wasn't.

Christina waved off her apology as she calmed her heart down. "No harm, no foul," came her reply. "To answer your question, this is Annie's favorite movie."

Both females looked to the screen as the beginning screen to Cinderella started playing.

"Never saw it," Rosalie replied, watching the low-resolution movie play.

Annie's mouth popped open in surprise as she finally paid attention to the conversation around her. "You've never seen it?"

Rosalie's lips twitched at the five-year old's bad grammar but shook her head anyway.

Christina pulled her feet upwards before nodded her head towards the end of the couch. "Feel free to join. Can't be any worse than listening to it outside."
