chapter twelve
killer.

Christina kept her word, and stayed cleared of the forest. The following week after running from Laurent, and the wolves, Christina was constantly looking over her shoulder. Bella shared the same fear as the eldest Swan sibling. They were both terrified of Laurent coming and finishing the job; or Victoria showing up, much like the dreaded vampire warned.

Charlie had started sending out search parties for the pack of wolves, which only made Christina worry more. She wasn't sure what she would do if something happened to her father because he was out there with rogue vampires.

Christina and Annie jumped as another round of thunder shook the house. The lights that were turned on in the living room flickered; as well as the TV that Annie was watching. Reruns of Spongebob Squarepants were playing as Christina wrote her essay for her professor.

"It's just a small storm." Christina's calming words did little to affect the six year old's fear as lightning brightened up the living room.

"I don't like thunder," Annie mumbled, facing the TV again.

Christina's lips twitched upwards as she ran her fingers through Annie's long locks. Her eyes glanced over the laptop screen, trying to edit her own essay-- only to get interrupted as the front door opened behind the duo.

The young mother glanced over her shoulder before sighing, seeing a glum Bella; soaked from the pouring rain. The younger sister had mentioned earlier on in the day that she was going to confront Jacob for ignoring her, but by the look on her sullen face, the older sister knew it didn't go over well.

"Are you okay?" Christina leaned her arm over the back of the couch as she made eye contact with Bella.

Bella simply shook her head.

Christina opened her mouth to question further, but the eighteen year old turned towards the staircase. "I'm going to take a shower," she muttered before disappearing upstairs.

Christina bit her lip as she watched Bella climb the stairs until she was out of sight.

"Is Aunty okay?" Annie asked, also peering over the couch watching the silent girl leave the duo in the living room.

Christina nodded her head slowly. "She will be. She's just sad right now."

"Is it because of Jake?" Annie turned around on the couch, barely paying attention to the show on the TV across from them as she continued to ask her mom questions. "Or Edward?"
