chapter eleven
interrogations.

"I can't believe Waylon is gone," Christina muttered towards Bella the next day before school. She had arrived home late last night, later than anyone was awake for; so, she wasn't able to talk to anyone. This morning, Bella was the one to fill her in on what she and Edward witnessed at the police station.

Bella bit her lip. "They said it was an animal attack."

"On the docks?" Christina narrowed her eyebrows. Bella just shrugged in answer. The older brunette sighed before leaning her cheek on her hand. "Did you read the book?"

Bella nodded slowly. "It mentions the Cold Ones but doesn't explain what they are. So, I used your laptop to do some research further."

Christina could feel her hands start to get sweaty at the thought of another theory. "And?"

"There's a lot of websites that try to explain what they are, but the only word that I could sum it up to is vampires."

"Vampires," Christina muttered back.

Bella nodded. "Ice cold skin. Inhumanly fast. Doesn't step out into the sunlight."

"So, what do we do?" Christina worried on her bottom lip.

"I'm gonna confront Edward about it."

"And you think that's the best idea?" Christina asked.

"It's all we got."

Christina Swan did not feel good. In fact, she felt sick to her stomach as she walked through the hospital halls. The more she thought about what Bella found out, the more it made sense— too much sense. She couldn't exactly point her fingers and claim that anyone was a supernatural creature, and the idea of that made her want to check into a psych ward, but the facts were there. The Cullens were vampires, and Christina didn't know what to do about it.

No one would believe her even if she wanted to tell anyone— which she didn't. She didn't even want to believe it— she didn't even want to know. She rather have gone through her whole life being ignorant of the fact that supernatural creatures were possible. If vampires were real, what else could be? Werewolves, mermaids, and fairies— oh, my!
