chapter nineteen the game ; part two.
"Sorry, ladies. We have to go on foot from here," Carlisle explained as he pulled over on the side of a trail in the midst of the woods.
"How far is the walk?" Christina asked, letting Carlisle lean over and unbuckle the complicated harness.
Both vampires chuckled at the young mother's question, making her and Bella glance worriedly at one another.
"More like run," Edward corrected.
"We're running?" Bella's eyes popped open, worried about tripping over her two left feet.
Carlisle grinned down at Christina. "You two aren't running. We are." He pointed towards himself and Edward. He turned around and held out his arms, waiting for the brunette to jump onto his back.
"We're gonna die," Christina mumbled towards Bella as she climbed onto Carlisle's back. She quickly wrapped her limbs around his neck and midsection, instantly getting a chill sent through her body. Though, she couldn't tell if it was from the temperature or the proximity of her and Carlisle's body.
"You know what?" Bella shook her head. "I'll just wait here."
Christina felt Carlisle's chuckle underneath her hands that were rested on top of his chest, making a blush run up her neck.
Edward laughed. "What happened to all your courage? You were doing extraordinary this morning."
She scoffed. "I haven't forgotten the last time yet."
"Oh, Bella. Don't be so dramatic," Christina called from over Carlisle's broad shoulder.
Bella narrowed her eyes but she didn't have a chance to respond as Edward picked her up and threw her over his shoulders. She immediately gripped his neck into a chokehold and wrapped her legs around his torso— much like Christina was doing with Carlisle.
"Make sure you two close your eyes," Carlisle instructed.
Within the second that Christina closed her green eyes, she felt the wind whip around her face. She dug her face lower into his neck to protect her face from the harsh wind. The young mother could barely tell they stopped moving until she heard Carlisle mumble back to her.
