chapter eight
nightmares.

A dream. It was just a dream, was Christina's mantra that she kept repeating in her head the following day.

It was a sunny day, which excited both of the Swan daughters— even though, they both looked like they got the same amount of sleep the night before. Dark purple bags laid underneath the brunettes' eyes as they got ready for their day. Charlie had already dropped Annie off at school when Christina finally rolled out of bed. She would have to thank Charlie later for being a big help in making sure Annie was taken care of this morning.

The young mother felt bad, but she couldn't get herself out of bed after the fresh nightmare that lingered on the front part of her brain. The crazy amounts of blood flashed before her eyes, as her subconscious played tricks on her vision; blurring the things around her room to make out the imaginary monsters.

"Sleep well, I see." A mocking voice called out to the young mother. Christina turned her head to see Darien catching up with her stride. "Purple is not your color."

"Chee, thanks." Christina rolled her eyes as her companion laughed. "I think I left my concealer at my mom's house."

Darien shrugged. "What kept you up last night? Was it a late-night lover?" He wiggled his dark brows in suggestion.

Christina's cheeks flamed up at his assumption before pushing his shoulder. "Shut up!" The brunette couldn't help but laugh as Darien tripped over his own feet, trying to regain his balance. "I didn't have sex last night. It was just a bad dream."

Darien's smile softened, looking more concerned than he did previously. "Must have been some dream. Maybe you should take a sick day, you don't look so good."

Christina shrugged off his concern. "I'm alright. I'm just tired. I'll take a nap after work before I have to pick up Annie from school."

The ebony nurse narrowed his dark hues before sighing. "Alright. But take it easy today. No need to impress anyone here anyways."

This time, Christina's eyebrows narrowed. "What do you mean?"

"Dr. Cullen took the day off today," Darien explained with a smirk. "He always takes off the sunniest of days in Forks and makes the most of it; like many of us wish we could. He and his children go hiking whenever the weather's nice." He shrugged his shoulders. "Guess that's something you can do when you're the highest-paid doctor in town."
