chapter eight
waking up.

"That's it."

Christina jumped from placing the plate full of eggs in front of Annie— but mother and daughter shared a confused look before looking towards Charlie. He had slammed his hand down on the kitchen table and was intently staring at Bella. She was shoving her soggy cereal around her bowl of milk before she glanced up at Charlie's stern voice.

"You're going to Jacksonville to live with your mother," Charlie continued.

"Annie." The six-year-old looked at her mother, barely touching her cold eggs in front of her. "Go grab your bag for school."

Annie looked like she wanted to object, but she sighed and listened to Christina anyway.

"Why?" Bella asked, placing her spoon down and gave Charlie more attention that she's given anything in the past four months.

Charlie sighed. He crossed his arms over his chest. "I just— I don't know what to do anymore. You don't act as someone left you; more like someone died."

Bella looked down at the table at Charlie's words. Christina stayed quiet— she agreed with her dad that Bella needed to get out, even if it wasn't permanent. The young Swan needed to wake up.

The brunette shook her head. "I'm not leaving Forks."

"Bella," Christina muttered softly. "He's not coming back." She has her doubts about whether Carlisle was coming back— even if he did, it would be on the sidelines and she wouldn't notice otherwise. It was time for them to move on with their lives.

Bella nods.

"It's not normal; this behavior," Charlie started. "And frankly, it's scaring the Hell out of your sister and me, and your mother." He let out a breath, releasing his harsh stance before placing a gentle hand on Bella's shoulder. "Go to Jacksonville, baby. Make some new friends."

"I like my old friends," she argued.

"Bella, you don't see your old friends," Christina snapped back. "You haven't bothered to hang out with any of them in months. I would know, I answer their phone calls and deny their requests to talk to you since you haven't left your room—"

"I'm hanging out with Jessica," Bella interrupted. Christina narrowed her eyes at Bella's lie. "We're, uh... going shopping tomorrow. In Port Angeles."
