Chapter 40

Finally, it was time for them to leave the hospital.

They're finally okay.

Owen carried Athena and kissed her cheek lovingly. "Oh, I've missed you so much, baby."

"Let me go!" Athena whined. "Imma big girl now! Big girl, Wenny!"

"Psh! She's just worried that she'll hurt you." Zen said while stretching his arms. "Man, doing nothing is tiring."

Charles glared at Zen.

"Don't mind him, Thea." Xavier said, petting her head. "You won't hurt us. We're fine."

Athena pouted. "What if—"

"There's no such thing as what ifs here." Owen said, kissing her temples. "Oh, baby. I'm sorry for worrying you."

Athena sighed tiredly, clenching her brother's shirt.

Remembering the incident and everything that has happened made her mentally tired.

"You guys are mean." She whined. "Don't do that again."

"What? Were you scared?" Zen teased, not really seeing Athena's upset expression yet.

"Don't tease her." Charles scolded.

"I was super scared!" Athena answered with a pout.

"We're fine." Xavier said with a comforting tone. "We're okay and we're here with you."

"See?" Zen shrugged. "So don't cry, crybaby."

Athena pouted. It's unfair. She haven't cried at all in front of everyone except the people that she trusts. She was trying to be brave.

And she was so tired of being that. Her ten year old body couldn't handle this anymore.

She looks at them. "I didn't want you guys to save me."

Xavier frowned. "We'll save you even if it costs us our lives."

That sounded like something out of a novel.

"I don't want that!" Athena cried, her eyes were glassy and she sniffled weakly. "You can't say that, meanie! That'll be unfair. I was super worried, Xavier. What if something happened? I can't lose mama and papa and I can't lose my brothers too."

"Athena... " Zen whispered sadly.

"I thought that you guys were going to go away. So far away where nobody could reach you." Athena sniffled weakly. "I was so scared."

"We know." Owen hushed, patting her back comfortingly. "Oh, baby, we know."

"I was so scared." She repeatedly cried. "I was so confused 'cause I didn't know what to do. I don't have super powers to save you. I was so hopeless."

"You're not hopeless, you hear me?" Charles said sternly. "You were always there for us, hoping that we'll wake up even if everyone thought that we're losing an impossible battle. You grabbed onto hope, you wished everyday that we'll win this game. You were always so brave and so strong even though others were saying that we'll die so don't ever say that you were hopeless because that's the last thing you will ever be."

Everyone stared at him blankly, making Charles uncomfortable. "W-What's with the stares?"

"Dude." Zen chuckled. "You should write an inspirational book or something."

Owen couldn't help but chuckle. "I feel like that line came out of a fantasy adventure movie."

"I couldn't help but agree." Xavier said making Athena chuckle.

"Charlie's nice." Athena whispered. "Thank you..."

"You're not alone, Thena." Zen grinned. "We'll always be there for you."

"Huh. I think Theo said the same thing."

Zen froze. He blinked once. Twice. Then shouted. "He said that? To you?"

Athena nodded.

"Oh. There'll be a wedding in the future... A wedding for Athena and-and ...That brat." He mumbled under his breath causing everyone to scoff at him.

"That's all you have to say?" Charles asked. Zen whipped his head and his eyes widened.

"What do you mean, that's all?" Zen shouted. "Our baby's going to get married to a playboy!"

"Hey!" Charles scolded. "That's not nice!"

"Oh, that's not nice." He mocked. "Of course it's—"

"Hey, let's go home guys!" Layla shouted while Alexander followed behind her with a grin.

"Oh come on, hun." Alexander said, wrapping his arm around his wife's waist. "Let's go get something to eat. I'm tired of eating the same meal. Their food tasted bland."

"Hmm." She hummed turn Layla turned around to look at them. "D'you guys agree to that?"

They all agreed to that.
