WHILE READING YOU SHOULD PLAY THE SONG "If i really love you" BY LEXI JAYDE
"What?" river asked, staring at his dress shoes.
"yeah, i still love you after everything. it's hard not to" you whispered, scared of what his reaction would be.
"i didn't come today to ruin your special day. i came because i thought i've moved on & i want to support you in whatever you do ya know?" you said looking at him, his eyes meeting with yours.
"i still care about you a lot river. that's not gonna change, ever. it's just... when i saw how beautiful everything looked, it just brought me back to the past & i couldn't handle it. i guess i shouldn't have come because i wrecked your wedding" you placed your head in your hands, cussing softly at yourself for causing a scene.
"y/n, i'm sorry. i still care about you too, like you said, i always will. but i just don't think we're meant to be. i wish we were, i do. but if you really love me, you gotta let me go darling. it was hard for me to let go too, but i did because i love you" he said, placing a hand on your shoulder to get you to look at him.
"it's just hard you know? everything just came back today even though i haven't seen you in years. it just hit me hard & i'm sorry river, i really am. i'll... i'll let you go" he dried some tears that fell from your eyes before tending to his own tears that fell without his knowledge.
"thank you. i'm really happy you came y/n, it means a lot" he said as he stood up, holding out his hand towards you.
you just smiled at him sadly & took his hand, rising from the bench. you both just stared at each-other for a moment before wrapping your arms around one another, holding each-other for a while. you missed this feeling of his arms around you if you were being honest. he felt the same, but he didn't dare say it.
"ready to go get married phoenix?" you asked him, smiling at how his face glowed from the sun hitting him.
"yeah, i am" he said as you both walked back to the church, opening the doors.
everyone stared at the two of you as you entered, river giving you one last hug before heading to go find his bride. you sat down in the back & tried to ignore the stares from the others there. the ceremony soon went on & the two were pronounced husband & wife. loud claps & hollers filled the church as the two lovers walked down the aisle hand in hand, smiling at each-other.
as they reached closer to where you were, river gave you one last glance, a small smile. you returned it as your heart swelled at how happy he was, that's all you ever wanted for him. the doors to the church shut & all the guests headed out to head to the reception. you decided it was best for you not to go, deciding to walk back to the bench you were at earlier.
it was now almost night, the sky littered with hues of purple & pink. you just stared at the lake for a while until you heard the laughs of a couple walking on the pathway that was in-front of the bench. they looked like they were in their teen years, happy & care free. the boy was a blonde like river & the girl was a y/h/c which made you softly smile at the two.
they reminded you a lot of you & river in ways even though you don't know them, you can just tell from their appearance & how they are around each-other. you watched them walk farther away until they were out of sight, thinking back to when things were more simpler. you fidgeted with your fingers for a few minutes until you realized you lost your clutch.
you stood up & looked around the bench, not seeing it there. so you walked back to the church, seeing people still in the parking lot & around the front doors talking. as you walked up to the front doors you saw a man your age walking around to any woman he saw, which was odd. you knocked on the doors of the church but they were locked.
you mentally scolded yourself for loosing it because they also had your car keys inside, so you sat on the steps hopeless.
"um, excuse me miss? is this yours by any chance? i noticed it while i was walking around & it was on the ground" the man who was walking around from earlier said to you, making you look up at him.
"you found it? oh my gosh thank you. you really are a life saver" you said as he handed you your clutch back, smiling at him.
"it's no problem really" he said with a smile.
he looked pretty attractive if you were being honest, he also seemed sweet. he had darkish brown hair, slightly curly & he was joggers & a loose t-shirt with running shoes.
"thank you again..." you said, gesturing for him to give you his name.
"i'm mark & you are?" he held out his hand to you.
"y/n" you said taking his hand as he helped you up.
"i've never met anyone with your name before, it's unique" he said.
"thank you, that's sweet of you" you blushed slightly at his comment.
"it was nice to meet you y/n" he said letting go of your hand, giving you a small smile.
"you too mark" you returned the smile as he started to walk away.
you stared at him for a few moments, coming up with an idea.
"mark!" you yelled out to him, making him turn around.
"do you want to maybe... walk me to my car? it's just down the street!" you yelled again, seeing him jog back over to you.
"it would be my pleasure y/n" he said as he held out his elbow for you to loop your arm through, making you chuckle at him.
you & mark walked to your car, exchanging laughs & smiles. once you reached your car you gave him your number & told him to call you whenever. you waved at him before driving off with a huge smile on your face. you really have to let someone go if you love them, you know that now.
