Her heart shuddered with each ragged breath she took. Her eyes drowning in the depths of his.
"Cade." His name left her lips on a helpless sigh. His lips moved lower to brush over hers and then his hands shifted down, sliding lower to cup her buttocks hefting her up more firmly against him. Her legs curled about his waist and he began to move. She lost awareness to her surroundings, to the number of people who rudely jostled against them in their rush to get to class and then to the silence that followed as the hallways emptied out and the classes filled with eager students. He came to a stop then. Saera drew in a shaky breath to peer unseeingly over her shoulders.
They were not at the dorms. Cade unwound her limbs from his lanky frame and she found herself standing on legs that could no longer support her. His lips brushed over her ear then, sending waves of limb weakening desire to drain away at whatever bit of resolve she may have had to not simply melt into a puddle of lust at his feet.
His lip quirked up in the corner. "Your next class," he said, nodding his head at the door behind her. Saera shook her head. He couldn't expect her to simply go to class as if nothing happened. As if he hadn't at all said what she'd thought he'd said. As if he hadn't just spun her world on its axis. As if he hadn't just stirred her up with lust and left her there, wanting.
Wide eyed and bewildered, Saera blinked up at him owlishly and his smirk widened. "Go on," he urged her. "Or you'll be late."
"Fuck late," she returned with feeling. And he chuckled.
"No." Shaking his head, he disagreed. "Fuck me," he corrected instead. "And you can, only later." Cade blew her befuddled face a cute kiss and then turned and sauntered away.
Sighing over missed opportunity, Saera turned towards her class. Another theory on the semantics of potion brewing. The bell for lunch was a welcome relief and Saera made her way towards the cafeteria where a cheeky wolf ambled on on all fours. He paused by Saera where she stood inline with her empty tray in hand, only to bound up on his hind legs then bend over to slavish a very wet kiss over her face. His grin was positively wicked even in his wolfish form.
Shaking her head over his antics, Saera reached for a serviette and proceeded to mop up, ignoring both the looks of open disgust and hostility levelled her way.
"Dog lover." Was just one of the snide comments muttered at her as she moved to find her seat on a bench as far away from the vicinity of her princes as she could manage. Even so, she felt their piercing stare down to her shoulder bones. Bones that almost rattled with the intensity of their displeasure.
Aside from killing her appetite so that she struggled to down the fried chicken and onion rings she had on her plate, Saera fared no worse for their stares. But that didn't stop them from trying.
Wish for something hard enough and sometimes it actually comes through. Distraction came at last in an unlikely form. A flare of bright light drew everyone's attention towards the wide windows that covered one side of the cafeteria walls from end to end. The light grew bigger then seemingly to collide with an invisible wall and then fizzle out altogether. In the sudden blare of sirens that followed understanding took a moment to take root. And when it did the student body as a whole leaped to their feets.
Ebon Academy was under attack.
