Chapter 33: All In A Day's Fun

A soft groan was heard above my head along with a soft rhythmic breeze grazing gently against the top of my head, a warm feeling in that particular spot that made me weirdly aware of that sensation along with a heavy feeling on top of my head. It felt like I was pressed against a wall but laying soft on something, but with something else pressed on top of my head. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't exactly something that I was familiarized with.

Becoming more aware of my senses, I felt Chase oddly close to me. My hand was wrapped in his, my left side was completely touching his right side, and I began to question if his head was on top of mine. Feeling the crick in my neck, I couldn't hold this position forever. I was beginning to wake up.

A yawn escaped my lips, my eyes finally blinking open before I sat up, the head above mine raising to turn to a boy who's eyes had finally opened, facing me completely with tired eyes and an unawareness that we had fallen asleep on each other, literally speaking. His eyes jolted before a slight gasp fell from his ivory lips while his cheeks turned a darker shade of pink.

"Did we just. . .?" He asked in slight disbelief.

"It looks like it," I said trying to roll out the cramp in my neck from falling asleep on his shoulder. His eyes darted down, and instinctively, so did mine to see our hands entwined, our fingers interlaced. It wasn't like that last night. We pulled away, distancing ourselves immediately after the contact. I stretched my fingers and popped my knuckles, feeling the sweet relief of retracting my hand.

"Geez, what time is it?" Chase said where I glanced over in his direction to see his back facing me, stretching his arms over his head where his back and shoulder muscles were tightening, showing off how toned he was even with all of his scars and wounds. They still looked kinda bad. I couldn't help but trace my finger over one the minor burns in his back, making him suddenly tense up.

"Sorry, I couldn't help staring." I said pointing out from his back, noticing myself that wasn't the only thing I was staring at. "I feel bad."

"Why? It's not like you did it." Chase said before turning around to face me.

"I know, but still. I hate that. Your body looks like a punching bag." I said sadly. "It just worries me. I don't like seeing you hurt." Even with him facing me, I couldn't help but stare at the rest of his wounds. They looked a lot better than last night, but they still weren't exactly the best to see. It was like a big cat scratched him with deep cuts.

"Aww do you care about me or something?" Chase said smugly with a silly grin on his cheek.

I playfully hit his arm, a little blush on my cheeks. "Oh, hush. You know I do. But seriously, are you okay? Does it hurt still?"

"Yeah, but I'll be alright. Nothing that I'm not used to." Chase said before looking away at the wall, almost as if he had drifted into deep thought. I couldn't help but wonder what he was possibly thinking. He seemed out of it.

"Hey," I said, resting a gentle hand on his knee where he glanced down at my touch, "are you okay? You seem distracted."

"Yeah, I'm good." Chase gave a short nod. "Come on, let's see if we can get out of here for a bit. We can go horse riding if you want." I gave him a nod, still uncertain about his mood. He wasn't his usual upbeat self. I couldn't figure out why.

I managed to go take a shower before we did anything else. I washed my hair and scrubbed at my body, brushing my teeth well afterward as I licked at them feeling them soft and clean. I put on some clothes that Chase brought to me to change into so I'd have some clean clothes to wear. It was really just one of his shirts and a pair of his pants that I hiked up below my knees so I wouldn't trip over myself. Curse my shortness.
