Chapter 39: To Ball or Not to Ball
(That is the question)

A couple days have passed since our stay at the kingdom in the mountain of divisions. I've spent most of my days either reading a ton of books in the library or plainly hanging out with Chase and Enoch. However, I was always by Chase no matter what we were doing. The only weird part about it was that we weren't sharing a bedroom anymore. We've been accustomed to each other's company for so long I've forgotten how it felt to be alone. It was nice at first having privacy to myself once again since literally my dungeon days, but I couldn't help but miss him during the nights. It was rather tiresome as I couldn't help but toss and turn all night with little to no sleep. If Chase found out I was hardly sleeping he'd have a fit.

Okay, maybe not completely throw a fit. But he wouldn't be happy. He'd be concerned I wasn't sleeping and it would bother me to worry him. There wouldn't be any blame held. It was understandable. He is only looking out for me. He shows how much he cares about me. Multiple times during our stay here even when it's just the two of us alone in each other's company, I'd find him holding my hand or resting his head on my shoulder. It was comforting. I liked taking care of him and knowing he was safe by my side. The warmth of his skin on mine was like a blanket of comfort. All the subtle moments made my heart melt, and even when it didn't, there was nothing that would lead me astray from him. The limit does not exist.

A loud bang broke the silence shaking me from my thoughts. Chase got up from his seat across from me and went to go open the door. We were in the middle of a chess match, and I was just about to win. Two more moves and I would have this owned. Chase opened the door to reveal Enoch who came barging in anyways. Chase went back to his seat to complete his next move.

Enoch studied carefully while not speaking a word. I paid him no mind. Chase leaned back in his chair awaiting my next move. A grin spread across my cheeks. My hand reached over to my King, easily conquering his piece. Chase gasped, irritated that I had beaten him once again.

"Two out of three!" He said quickly with a grin. He probably assumed he would find a way to beat me. I shook my head at him.

"You're not going to win, Chase." I said triumphantly. "I'm unbeatable."

Chase rolled his eyes at me with a shake of his head. He stuck his tongue out at all childlike. There was no way to stop myself from giggling at his cute self acting so silly. Enoch cleared his throat from between us gaining our attention.

"I know you have to leave in a few days," said Enoch almost sounding a little sad that we had to go soon. "But my father is hosting a ball in your honor. He would be thrilled if you would attend. It's tonight so there's plenty of time to ready yourselves; however, he always does a weird theme. Tonight it's dancing with the stars, but like, literally. He always gets hung up on his weird books that he reads. But anyway, will you go?"

"Of course I'll go." I said surely. "I've never had a ball in my honor."

"Not even from your mother?" Enoch asked.

I scoffed. "Are you kidding me? She'll hold a ball for her collections of rare spoons rather than her only child. It's fine, I didn't like her balls anyways."

"Oh." said Enoch knowing it was a touchy subject to stay away from. "But yay! The King will be so happy. He'll announce you both down to the ballroom together. They'll have food and everything with a banquet. But I wouldn't eat the food. It's rather. . . unpleasant would be an understatement. The party is ten pm sharp."

"That's rather late for a ball," pointed out Chase.

"They're always late at night. It's easier for the guests. Don't expect anyone too fancy to come either. It'll just be citizens around the division." Enoch said. I didn't know the division had people living around it at all.
