030- LOSING THE WAGER
I was speechless after we finally succeeded in performing what Leah suggested earlier after our 10th attempt of activating the gateway. Nung una, akala ko madali lang yung gagawin naming perceptive transport but seriously, it was as difficult as navigating the waters of Charybdis!
Who knew we all had to link our minds with one another in-order for us to activate the portal? Muntik na nga kaming sumuko during our 6th failed attempt, good thing that Kai was able to lift our spirits up saying that we'll never accomplish anything as a team if we give up that easily. Buti nalang talaga.
"This is the base of Mount Cynthus.", Kai declared as we roamed our eyes around the place. Medyo palpak parin nang kaunti yung perceptive transport since our supposed location earlier is the summit of Mount Cynthus. Pero okay narin toh.
Hindi naman gaanong mataas ang bundok but the path made it look hard for us to climb. Mount Cynthus is like a bare pile of granite rocks at parang napapaligiran ito nang pader. Not to mention na kaunti lang ang nabubuhay na damo sa buong lugar. The place looked... dead, but the mythical ambiance from the ancient world still surrounded its historical scenery.
"Now that we're already here in Delos, saan na tayo susunod na pupunta?", one of our teammates asked na kaagad sinegundahan nung isa.
"May punto si Ren. And besides, do we even know what we're looking for dito sa Delos? As far as I remembered, wala namang sinabi ang Polemarchos sa scroll kung ano ang bagay na hahanapin natin. Sev only said that we'll be after some hidden artifact of sorts.", Melia pointed out kaya natahimik kaming lahat. To be honest, I kind of regret our decisiveness because clearly... we sucked. Masyado kaming padalos-dalos sa mga ginagawa namin. Kai and I were total failures as captain and vice-captain of the Alpha Team. Sana nasa mas mabuting sitwasyon yung ibang grupo ngayon.
"Look, I really---", I was about to say something to the team when we suddenly felt the ground tremble, making us almost lose our balance kasabay nang isang malakas na ungol galing sa---parang isang mabangis na hayop na nagmula sa itaas ng Mount Cynthus.
"What in Hades was that?", Kai immediately became alert as his hellhound, Dolion, still stood beside him letting out a low growl while alarmingly facing the top of Mount Cynthus. It seems to me that Kai's animalis guardian knew what type of animal just made that eerie sound earlier. And I'm pretty positive that it was far from friendly.
"Dolion. Proséxte tis perimétrous." (Dolion. Scout the perimeters)
Sa sinabing iyon ni Kai at sa isang iglap lang, his animalis guardian automatically sprinted uphill, papunta sa summit ng Mount Cynthus and took a few minutes before Dolion completely vanished from our sights.
"I take full responsibilty for the error we made at Caesar's Palace. I should've sharpened my senses and tightened my guard. I apologize for being a failure as a captain.", hindi namin inasahan ang mga salitang binitawan ni Kai out of nowhere that it made us speechless. Walang ni-isang salita ang lumabas sa bibig namin kaya nagpatuloy si Kai.
"I'll face the consequences. May it come from the rest of you or the god Hermes himself. For now, let us work together as a team and complete this tournament together.", Kai sternly declared infront of the Alpha Team. Kaagad na umapila yung ibang kasama namin.
"No, captain. Whatever consequences we may face, this team will overcome it together. At kung yung kasunduan niyo ni god Hermes ang tinutukoy mo, wag kang mag-alala. Hindi tayo papayag na makuha niya ang gusto niya.", one of the girls insisted. Tumango yung iba. One of the boys butted in.
