Chapter 9 - A Promise

Kiori POV

When I bit into him, I just realised what happened.

No, this can't be happening.

I'm going to be killed.

"K-Kiori-c-chan...w-what a-are you d-doing..." Naruto said in a pained voice. I should kill him and eat him up before anyone knows, but...

"Fuck..." I growled. I stood up with a scowl and repeatedly punched the wall, creating a dent. Nobody lives here anyways. "FUCK ALL THIS SHIT!!!!!"

Tears streamed down my face. I don't want to live my life running again. I don't want to hide anymore. I just wanted to live like a normal human. I never wanted to be a ghoul. I never wanted to kill at the start.  I dropped on my knees.

"Kiori-chan..." Naruto muttered. 

"Y-You stupid human....J-Just..." I glared at him with my tear stained face. "kill me already..."

"You mean you're not human?" Naruto blinked in confusion.

"We were a threat because you treated us like filth. We have lives too, fucker." Kiori growled through gritted teeth. 

"W-What do you mean?" Naruto frowned.

"SHUT UP!!!! JUST KILL ME!!!! STOP MAKING THIS SO HARD FOR ME!!!! I CAN'T KILL YOU!!! I'M WEAK, OKAY!?!?! SO NOW JUST TAKE THIS CHANCE TO KILL ME!!! ELAMINATE AN SS-RATED TARGET!!! LESS THREAT!!! ISN'T IT, YOU FILTHY HUMAN!?!?!" Kiori screamed at the confused blonde.

"Kiori-chan...why would I kill you?" Naruto asked.

"I hurt you. I'm already a criminal for breathing. Touching you would be even more of a crime. Am I right, Uzumaki?" I stared at him coldly.

"N-No...? Why would you say that, Kiori-chan?" Naruto frowned.

"Because we're monsters. Aren't we?" I scoffed. "Won't you scream for help? Defend yourself? Kill me? I can kill you at any minute," I activated my kagugan and glared at him, trying to make him scared.

Trying to convince myself I'm not a monster.

But I know he'll run. I know I'm a monster. I know I-

"I won't."

I froze. Why won't he run? Why won't he hide? Why isn't he scared? Why-

"W-Why do you call yourself a monster?" He asked.

"Because I eat humans." I answered, looking down. 

"Why do you eat humans?"

"Because I was born this way," I gritted my teeth. I was getting irritated. "Are you trying to tau-"

"Then it's not your fault."

I froze again. Then I narrowed my eyes. "It's a trap, right? You're being all friendly to me but in the end you'll only torture me and play with my feelings won't you?" I scoffed. "You want to act all heroic, I won't fall for that."

"I want to receive acknowledgement, that's true." he answered. I glared at him at disgust. "I should just finish you o-" "But not in that way. That's just unfair. I want to do things the right way."

My eyes widened. I looked down. Ever since she died, I've had trust issues worse than Nishiki. But...I don't really have anything to live for now...trusting someone would be fine.

"Believe me, I'll help you. I'll keep all of this a secret." He grinned but winced a little because of his wound.

"Fine...I...believe you." I narrowed my eyes at him. My eyes softened when I saw his wound. "But what about that? It's so obvious. People will find out who I am and what happened to you."

"It's okay...I heal quick!!! And I can use my other jackets to cover it up!!!!" He grinned.

"I don't know how you can be so cheerful after all that..." I sighed. "Let's go to your apartment. I'll help you with the wound."

"So, Kiori-chan, where do you usually get your food?" Naruto asked. 

"I get it from drunkards in the red light district." I answered as I cleaned up the side of his wound, cringing. He winced. "U-Um, sorry. I suck at this kind of stuff. We ghouls usually heal so we don't do this kind of things." 

"It's okay, I can handle this kind of pain, dattebayo!" He grinned. 

"Damn...I took quite a big part from you..." I sighed. "Are you sure you WILL heal? I mean, you're a human, not a ghoul."

"Yeah, I will. I don't know why. It just happens." Naruto shrugged with his other shoulder, which seemed pretty weird in my opinion.

"Why did you help me?" I asked.

"Because..." he paused. "The villagers keep calling me a demon...and I thought you had the same treatment from the others as me. So I wanted to help you."

"So you promise you won't tell anyone?" I asked.

"I promise." he said with a nod, wincing a little.

"Gah, don't move!!! You'll only make the wound bigger!!!" I growled. "God, humans. So easily injured. How do you guys even survive."

"You haven't told me about your ife before you came here," Naruto said.

"Oh..." I looked down and chuckled. "Well, this will sound crazy but...I came from another world."

"WHAT!?" He exclaimed. "That's so cool!!! How is your world like? What are your friends like? Do you have any friends? How do-"

"GAH!!! ONE QUESTION AT A TIME, YOU BONEHEAD!!!" I screamed.

"Okay, okay." He nodded, only to wince again.

"Well, in my world, I was 19 years old." I sighed.

"Wow! So you're, like 19 years old right now!?" He asked.

"20." I corrected him. "Well, at first, I was a corpse collector."

"Corpse collector?" Naruto asked, confused. 

"Yes. My family wasn't comfortable with killing so we ate the people who commited suicide instead. Then one day, my parents got killed by two CCG investigators."

"What's CCG?"

"It stands for Commission of Counter Ghoul. They use weapons called quinques that are made from our kagunes to kill us." I answered. Before he could ask, I said,"Kagunes are organs used by ghouls as a weapon. It comes from this thing called Kakuho. I have two of them."

"Coooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!" Naruto beamed. I sweatdropped. "Can I see your kagune thing?"

"No, not yet." I answered. 

"But why?" he whined.

"If I unleash my kagune, It might be permanently damaged and will be incomplete forever. The same thing happened to my friend when she was a kid."

"But why did she?" he asked.

"She wanted to protect her brother," I frowned as I thought about Ayato.

"Oh." Naruto blinked. "You guys must have a tough life."

"Well, in truth, I think yours is worse," I bent my head down. I will never tell him about me being tortured. I still have nightmares of it.

"Do you want to stay here tonight?" Naruto asked.

"Huh..." I blinked, unsure. "Um...maybe?"

"YATTA!!!!" Naruto cheered. He screamed in pain, clutching his arm. I snickered.

"Hey, don't get so happy yet. I still have to ask my brother. He's very protective of me sometimes."

"Brother? You have a brother? Is he a ghoul too?" Naruto asked, excited.

"No. He's an ANBU in this village as my caretaker." I answered. I would deadpan if I hadn't suddenly thought of Nishiki's death. "W-Well...maybe it isn't so good for me to stay here...we just became friends today after all..."

"Oh..." he muttered, sad.

"Well, see you in academy tomorrow. Take care," I waved and exited his house, running to Iyoro's apartment.
