Hidden (Avengers x reader)

Wasn't expecting that

After finding our next location to hit I immediately went down to the lab. It would take me a while to actually make the small device and program it and I didn't have very long. Tony wanted to leave in the morning so we could do this as fast as possible.

I sit hunched over the small table in the corner of Starks lab as I fiddle with some metal parts. Tony offered the help of JARVIS, but I liked doing things myself. I needed to know it would work.

I pull some protective goggles over my eyes and grab a tool from the tray beside me. I intricately weld some pieces together on the tiny device. The actual device was done by midnight but it was going to take longer to actually program it. I had to program it to send previous and current files but I had to make it covert. The device had to self destruct after a few weeks because that's when HYDRA sent their clean up crews.

It's not until about 4am when I finally finish. I yawn and pull the goggles off the top of my head. The small silver device was about as small as a paperclip. I hold it up and privately celebrate.

I look around for somewhere to put it but sigh when I see no space available near me. Tony's lab was a mess. I really needed to clean up in here one day. It would probably kill Stark but whatever, he may be able to live in a garage can but I can't.

I tuck the device into the pocket of my pants and turn off the lamp at my station. I walk out of the lab and back to my room. The hallways were deserted and everyone was asleep. I trudge to my room knowing i'd be getting leas than two hours of sleep.

I don't even bother to change out of my clothes and I set the device in my desk drawer. I flop face first onto my bed and almost immediately fall asleep.

I wake up to someone knocking on my door. I groan and roll over in my covers. They knock again and this time I stand up and trudge to my door. I open it to see a very peppy Thor.

"Good morning lady Y/n! Stark said we're leaving in an hour and I should come make sure you're awake." He says grinning.

I smile. I was exhausted and seeing how awake Thor was just made me even more tired.

"Yea ok thanks." I say and close the door again.

I look over to my nightstand and see it's 7:15 on the dot. Well at least it was more than two hours of sleep. I walk into my bathroom and pull my hair back. I splash cold water onto my face in a desperate attempt to wake myself up.

After a few splashes I think i'm awake enough. I put on a pair of leggings and a tank top and put my hair in a low pony tail. I pick my pendent up from the drawer in my nightstand and pin it to my chest. I grab some boots from my closet and pull them on over my feet.

Once i'm dressed and ready I grab the device from my desk and slide it into my boot. I open my door and can hear people talking down the hall. I trudge into the kitchen and see everyone else sitting around the kitchen talking all happily.

"Good morning sleeping beauty!" Sam sarcastically exclaims.

I roll my eyes. "Hey I only got like three hours of sleep so I could build the device for this whole thing to work so shut your trap Sam." I argue.

He laughs and I pour myself a cup of coffee. I sit i between Steve and Bucky at the table and rest my head on the table.

"I'm definitely going to sleep on the jet." I sigh.

Steve starts playing with my hair and I smile.

Tony walks into the room and claps his hands.

"Ok people look alive! I want everyone on the jet in 10! We're leaving in 15 so let's start moving." He says before leaving again to grab his backup suit.

I hear Steve and Bucky stand up from either side of me. I groan when I don't hear them walk away. I look up to see them both staring down at me. I sigh and push away from the table.

"Don't judge me." I joke. "How are the literal old men more alive then me right now?"

They both roll their eyes and Bucky lightly punches me in the arm. I laugh and bounce between them. I branch away from them as they get their stuff together.

I'm the first one to the roof so I just sit by the edge looking over the city. I hear a whoosh beside me and all the sudden Peter is sitting beside me. I jump then sigh.

"What's up kid" I laugh.

He looks up at me and smiles. "Mr Stark said he wanted some help on the next few missions so I told May I had some important project." He says and looks out over the city with me.

I nod. I admired the kid. He had a passion for doing good and it was adorable. I remember when I his age I was on the run for my life. i would have killed to have had his life.

Once we're all on the jet we start to form a plan. It was kind of a sad sight to see. Steve sat on the bench in his star spangled suit but without his shield. Tony's back up suit was not as good as his regular suit and he was pissed that he didn't have time to fix it up. Sam sat frustrated with just a few guns. Everyone looked so different without their things.

The only people who weren't mopey were those who didn't exactly have tools. We all load up with guns and other weapons and different tools. I try to sleep while we fly but I couldn't seem to relax enough.

Once we land in Germany we go over the plan again. We didn't have to take down everyone, we just had to get to the control room and get out. We had landed a couple miles away so we all start the trek once we're ready.

Everyone's just talking about how mad they were about not having their gear. I can't help but roll my eyes. We get to the edge of the tree line and I can see the building on the distance. I couldn't quite see well but it looked.... off?

I don't think anyone else noticed but Stark sent Peter ahead for a check. He takes off swinging through the trees. In the few minutes he's gone I hit my pendent and my suit envelopes me. Everyone waits in anticipation.

He's only gone for a minute but when he lands in front of us he pulls his mask off his face. You could see the confusion and the worry on his face.

"What is it kid?" Tony asks.

"The building- it's absolutely destroyed. Up in flames." He stutters.

I literally laughed so hard I cried at the first ten seconds. It's like they're in couples therapy. I love their relationship.
