"Promise me you'll look after them?" Freddie asked frantically, fiddling with his shirt button. Roger rolled his eyes and assured him that yes, your daughters would be fine, and yes, he'd look after them, and yes, you look great Freddie. The singer sprayed some cologne over his neck and reapplied his kohl, noticing the colour fading a little. He was wearing his favourite suit, a black two piece with a crisp white shirt. He had trimmed his moustache, combed his short black hair, pressed his trousers and left his two top buttons undone, knowing that Jim liked it when he did that whilst wearing suits.
The two men were having their first date night in a long while, in a relatively fancy restaurant in the heart of London. They had planned to go out somewhere when Freddie was four months pregnant with Emilia, but Little Miss Morning Sickness had given them the middle finger. Freddie had instead spent the day in bed, feeling really guilty. He remembered with a smile how Jim came sauntering in the room with chocolates and flowers and they had a date night at home instead, Sophia tiptoeing into the room for cuddles.
The couple were celebrating their seven-year anniversary tonight. Emilia turned six months old a fortnight ago, and the couple were so busy with their schedules they hadn't had the time to spend quality time together. Freddie was determined to enjoy himself tonight.
"Emi should be asleep already, it's all she does to be honest. If Sophie's still awake then it's playtime until 7:30, then it's brush teeth, story time and bed by 8pm. Then the house is yours." Freddie informed Roger. Roger and Dominique had kindly offered to babysit for Freddie and Jim. Dominique had been the one to suggest spending time with Jim in the first place. Freddie inspected himself in the mirror once more, then nodded and turned away.
Roger and Freddie walked into the living room, where Jim and Dominique were having a conversation. Freddie scooped Sophia into his arms and gave her a kiss on the head, telling her to behave for uncle Roger and auntie Dom. Freddie hugged Roger and Dominique goodbye, grabbed his coat, phone, wallet and keys and took Jim's hand, leading him out to the car. Jim got in the driver's seat and pulled out of the parking point.
They arrived at a fancy but relatively cheap restaurant, although Freddie insisted that he would pay if it was more expensive than the couple originally thought. They checked in to their reservation and were given the finest table in the restaurant. It was infront of a wide window and had a magnificent view of London.
First they chose their drinks; Freddie, feeling brave, chose a vodka tonic, and Jim had his usual pint of beer. He made sure that it wasn't strong, because he was driving the couple back.
"Y'know you can have another after this, Jimmy? I have enough to pay for a cab, we can get absolutely hammered if you want." Freddie put on a showman grin. Jim chuckled and replied with "and who's going to take the car back home, I wonder?"
The couple talked among themselves as they drank, and a few moments later the waiter was back to order their starters. Jim had insisted that they have a three-course, wanting to spend as much time with his husband as possible.
"I'll have the soup of the day." Jim smiled at Freddie, signalling him to speak. "May I have the buttered bruschetta, please?" Freddie inquired. The waiter gave a firm nod and whisked himself away.
Freddie was pleasantly surprised that they hadn't been interrupted by paparazzi yet. He was finally able to enjoy himself with his husband in public without having loads of photos taken of him. It felt nice to get away from the flashing of cameras and floods of questions. He liked it.
The starters were soon presented, and Freddie fed Jim a piece of bruschetta, laughing as Jim caught it between his teeth with a look that said "ta da!"
Freddie selected a vodka penne for his main, which Jim took the piss out of him for. "Haven't you had enough vodka?" The Irishman chuckled. Freddie rolled his eyes fondly. Jim selected a juicy bit of steak, and the two ate peacefully, thoroughly enjoying their time together.
They decided to share a dessert, and were presented with an absolutely enormous brownie, with a huge dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. Chocolate syrup was drizzled all over the plate, and yet somehow it wasn't messy. They had a spoon each, and took chunks out of the warm brownie, blushing like schoolgirls whenever they made eye contact.
As usual, they split the bill. Freddie and Jim both put down £15, amazed at the low prices for such a complex dinner. They picked up their coats and walked out into the air. Jim opened the passenger door for Freddie, and got a kiss out of it. He grinned and got in the drivers side, doing his seatbelt and driving off into the night.
They arrived back home to see Dominique and Roger watching the television. They had ordered a pizza between them, and hugged Freddie and Jim to welcome them back home.
"How was it?" Dominique questioned Freddie about the night. The two of them had a cup of tea and a chat in the kitchen, sitting at the small table, seeing as Dom and Roger weren't in any rush. Roger and Jim, closer than anyone would think, watched football over a couple of beers. After another couple of hours, Dom and Roger said goodbye. Freddie went upstairs to check on the girls.
Emilia was asleep in her cot. "Aww, you never give me any trouble, do you, baby?" Freddie kissed her cheek. He then looked into Sophia's bed - the two girls shared a room. Sophia was asleep, but stirred a tiny bit when Freddie kissed her nose. Jim and Freddie checked all doors and windows in the house were shut and locked, then got ready for bed.
Freddie applied his usual moisturiser and put on his silk pyjamas, brushing his teeth and combing out his hair. He wiped his light makeup off and dove under the warm covers, waiting for Jim. The Irishman soon joined him, and the couple kissed each other goodnight, falling into a deep sleep.
