"So, you have a crush on him."

"I certainly don't!" Evan protested loudly, which made a few heads in front of them turn. He and Angie were currently on a bus on their way to school. And for 20 minutes ride, it felt like an eternity. At least for Evan.

"Mind your own business," he advised them in a sharp tone. Morning plus no coffee plus Angie could bring the worst out of him. Not that he was addicted to caffeine but getting up in the morning was not for him. That was the only downside of attending school outside their small town.

"You look at him at least fifteen times a day," Angie continued, not considering his annoyance, which she obviously caused.

"So?" he decided to give up and played along. Maybe that way he'd finally find out why she was bothering him with it in the first place.

"So? You like him," she repeated and looked at his friend like he had grown another head. Evan thought that she could be so dense sometimes. It was obvious that several things were wrong with her statement. She either didn't notice them or deliberately chose to ignore them.

"He is not my mate, anyway," he told her what they both already knew. He wasn't even a wolf. Evan sensed it instantly when they first met. He had to admit, it was discouraging. It was the only flaw he noticed about the boy so far, and he could be really judging when it came to people.

"Since when do you care about mates?" Once again, she looked at him like he was crazy. He couldn't blame her, though. He would look at himself the same way if he were in her shoes. After all, she was the one who had heard most of his complaints.

"I don't, but my parents do," he reminded her of the obvious. Even when he thought Kieran was nice (well, more than nice), he couldn't think about him in that way. There wasn't a single chance for them, and he knew it. He was only saving himself from heartbreak. Besides, no one said Kieran liked him too. That would be too great a paradox.

"Still, I'm proud of you." Angie beamed at him. Evan saw his brain again. Maybe he should stop rolling his eyes so hard. One day they would stay like that, as his mother used to tell him when he was little.

"No, thank you." He shook his head and sighed. She immediately frowned, dissatisfied with his answer.

"You didn't even ask why!" That was the last thing he wanted to do, but to make her happy, he did it.

"Fine. Why?" he asked in a harsh tone so that she would also know how he felt about this topic.

"Because you admitted you like a boy." She looked so pleased with herself, he wanted to gag.

And his day was suddenly even worse. At least the bus finally stopped.

---

School went so much slower when he was trying to ignore Angie. He talked to my classmates, but it wasn't the same. Not that he would ever admit that aloud.

"Wanna get lunch together?" Aiden, one of his classmates, asked. He was one of the few human friends Evan had. Well, they were friends in school. They never hung out outside of it because he didn't know how he would explain wolves in his kitchen. But for real, in his neighbourhood, no one cared about when or where they shifted. On the other hand, his mom didn't like, when he was hanging out in Marwell after school. So it was a dead end.

"Hell yeah." If food doesn't cheer him up, nothing would. Maybe if he hurried, he would get something sweet for his nerves. As if he needed nerves to have a sweet tooth.

They quickly packed their things so they could drop them into their lockers on the way to the cafeteria and stood up. Evan's locker was far away from Angie's, so he wasn't afraid that he might meet her. Even when he felt a bit lonely without her, he was still mad.

"What's the deal between you and Angie?" His life apparently did revolve around her. Evan gave him a sour look, letting him know right away that that was the last thing he wanted to hear.

"She was too annoying for me to handle," he clarified and adjusted the books in his hands. Aiden looked confused. He raised a brow at him and waited for his explanation.

"She makes fun of you 24/7," he pinpointed the obvious, and Evan sighed.

"I guess I had enough." He shrugged. This conversation was almost as pleasant as the one in the morning with the aforementioned friend.

They finally arrived at his locker, and Aiden waited until he put his books away. He nodded his head toward his locker. Fortunately, the blonde understood and went to do the same. With a sigh, Evan rested his head against the metal. He couldn't wait to be home.

"Hey, bad day?" He almost growled. Who the hell was annoying him this time? As if he didn't have enough. He raised his head, and his eyes met the blue ones. He quickly straightened himself. A big smile tugged at the lips of the cute boy in front of him, and he couldn't help himself and smile back at him. Was it him or did his heart really just start beating faster?

"The worst," Evan answered truthfully. Kieran looked puzzled for a second, but then he grinned again. If he continued to smile at him like that, this crush definitely wouldn't go away, Evan thought to himself.

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is there any way I can cheer you up?" Evan could imagine several ways for him to do that. Not that he could say any of them out loud. They sounded way too horny. His parents certainly wouldn't be happy.

"Nah." It was already better since he was talking to him, Evan thought. Again, not like he could say it aloud. It wasn't because he was shy or something (well, he kinda still was), but flirting with him would only lead to one thing – heartbreak – as he said before.

"Can I at least join you for lunch?" Evan smirked at that offer. He really didn't give up easily. Another thing he admired about him.

"Yeah, why not." He shrugged. Kieran didn't have time to say something in response since Aiden appeared to Evan's right.

"Can we go?" Aiden asked and looked at Kieran curiously. Evan rolled his eyes and explained: "Kieran is joining us."

---

"If I had to listen to your flirting any longer, I would probably kill myself." Was the first thing Aiden told him after they finished their lunch and got back to class.

"I wasn't flirting," Evan immediately objected. He truly wasn't. Did I want to? Hell yes. Did he actually do it? Hell no. His mom would definitely be proud. Who knew why this thought did not bring him joy.

"Well, he was. I'm hundred percent sure he has a crush on you." Great. That was the last thing he wanted to hear. It would be so much easier if Kieran wasn't always so kind to him. And his kindness wasn't the only thing about him. Kieran was drop-dead gorgeous. He had slightly wavy hair that he kept pushing from his face, but it never really stayed where he wanted it, blue eyes that always shone with happiness and full lips, that Evan's eyes avoided at every cost. He wondered what he would say about him, though. Evan didn't think he looked extremely good, but it wasn't the worst either.

Fingers snapped in front of his face, and he awakened from his thoughts.

"So you like him too, huh," Aiden mocked him. Evan playfully shoved him, and he started laughing.

"Shut up!" Irritated, he shouted at him and shook his head. Few heads turned their way, but he couldn't care less. It wasn't the first time. Not even for the first time today.

"Fuck, why the hell is everyone so annoying today?" He sighed but obviously didn't get an answer. Aiden was too busy laughing, and Angie was nowhere in sight.

Being a wolf with stupid friends was sometimes just too much.
