Evan's first reaction to Nowhere and Angie's were quite different. Maybe it was because she saw it at night, but in her humble opinion it looked like a place where killers buried their victims to make sure no one would find them.

However, before Evan could say something sarcastic to her, Michael overtook him and told her that she would be next. She was almost offended by that, but then Michael added that she would be found very quickly because of the glowing outfit, and she decided to take it as a compliment. The crisis was quickly averted, that is until another one appeared, and that was how to get Angie up to the roof in those shoes. However, before anyone could offer to carry her, she solved it in her own way and ran upstairs with her shoes off before the others could intervene. Needless to say, there was still snow outside, so by the time she ran upstairs, her legs were redder than blood.

But that wasn't what caught Evan's attention. He was used to his best friend's craziness, but what he saw for the first time was a makeshift bench made of planks laid side by side and covered with a blanket. And he didn't have to be a genius to know who put it together.

"When exactly did you get home?" He turned to the black-haired boy next to him who didn't leave his side for even a second. (And not just because they were holding hands the whole time.)

"Soon enough for you to have a great New Year's Eve," was his reply, accompanied by a dazzling smile of course.

"I can already imagine how your family hates me because you spend so little time with them because of me." He didn't really mean it, as he couldn't imagine someone like Ryan coming from a family that was capable of hatred, but still, there was a voice in his head that told him to do everything he could to make a good impression on them, even though he hasn't even seen them yet.

"I think my parents immediately understood that I had to return urgently. At least the condoms I found packed in my bag indicate that," Ryan answered him with a cheeky smile. He was obviously testing how often he could make Evan blush today.

"They didn't," he countered immediately, although he didn't know them at all and judged only by the fact that they were parents.

"They did. My dad even said to me in the doorway - I quote Go get some." Ryan's laugh grew louder, and so did the blush in Evan's cheeks.

"I'm never meeting your parents," Evan stated, and to interrupt this conversation, he quickly moved to the makeshift benches where his remaining two friends were already sitting. Poor Michael held Angie's shoes while she put on his socks, which he managed to take off to help keep her warm.

Ryan's laughter lingered in the air, and Evan couldn't ignore it. At least not on the inside. His heart was beating like a drum, and the butterflies in his stomach decided to race.

"You're done flirting?" Michael looked up at him. Evan's eyes fell on his best friend's legs that were draped over his lap before he looked back at Michael with a raised eyebrow. Words were not necessary. The two were getting closer and maybe it was just friendship, but Evan knew best how thin the line between friendship and love was.

"Leave them alone! They're so adorable," Angie, oblivious to their silent exchange, decided to join the conversation. Her lisping was probably supposed to be cute to complement her words, but in her drunken state, it felt comical.

"We are." Ryan's leg rested on Evan's as he sat down so close to him. He placed his hand on Evan's knee, but by the way it was turned, Evan could tell right away that the ink-haired boy wasn't going to give up the warmth of his hand so easily and immediately intertwined his fingers with his.

"So...how long have you known about it?" Michael's question was unexpected. At least for Evan. He wasn't ready to admit how long he had actually been avoiding Ryan. He was afraid it would hurt him if he knew.
