A Different Beginning ~ Part 10 ~ Updated: 12/28/14 Early Evening

Waking up was always the worst experience no matter the place or the time. Opening my heavy eyelids, I let my eyes drift around the hospital room. I hadn’t looked at it before but It was actually really big. It must have been a private room because it had a large sitting area at the end of my bed and a nice TV pointed to me. There was also a window seat where the moon shown through.

Trying to shift, I groaned and touched my chest. Carefully I slipped the shirt I was wearing up and found a number of thick bandages wrapped around my sides. Shaking and slowly breathing in and out testing. I still wheezed a little but it didn’t hurt as much as before. Slowly, I climbed out of the bed my legs wobbly.

Wrapping a hand around the ice cold pole of the IV I slowly rolled it to the door. Turning the handle slowly, I walked down the hall very slowly and stopped before the waiting room pausing to listen to the number of voices.

“She was up in the tree when we found her.” Kota explained.

“She was barely up in the tree.” Nathan spat, he sounded annoyed and that worried me.

“She was looking at the clouds.” Luke sighed. “She was trying to relax even though she was in a ton of pain.”

“Enough…” A voice sounded and my eyes widened not recognizing it. “I don’t care why she was up there. You were able to coax her down and bring her here while keeping her calm and as comfortable as possible. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Lee what did you see of her bruises when she came down?” The voice was formal and strong.

“She had them up and down her chest and back.” Kota responded painfully.

“Fuck she was barely moving. Every breath looked like it took all her energy.“ North grumbled.

“She couldn’t see straight either.”  Luke pipped up.

“Okay. Did she tell you what happened?” The male questioned.

“No… she refused.” Kota whispered.

“The same when Doc asked.” North grunted.

“Aggele rushed out of Kota’s yesterday when she saw the time… maybe because of that?” Silas responded.

Tears threatened to spill down my cheeks and I leaned against the wall sliding down to listen to the male’s words shaking softly. They had no idea. Silas didn’t know. I breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t need to know. No one did. It wasn’t their fault. They didn’t know. It was normal for people to call other’s houses. It just wasn’t acceptable in my own. Looking tired I pulled my knees up to my chest, very slowly, and listened more.

“Peanut didn’t like us touching her either.” Nathan responded. “Maybe her mother or father?”

A higher voice responded next, another person I didn’t recognize. “Fucking Hell! You guys didn’t think of this earlier!?”
