A Different Beginning ~ Part 26 ~ Updated: 1/11/15 Late evening

The loud speaker flickered off and my eyes met Nathan’s whose had grown wide in worry. Slowly he stood gathering his things and shifted out of the class room. I watched as he shifted and my worries sky rocketed. It was hard to focus the rest of class as I worried about the boys. What had happened? Why had they all been pulled out? Okay Sang calm down and think.

My hand skimmed over my paper writing down the notes both of the boys would miss and I thought hard about the situation. If they didn’t know that North wasn’t here that meant that it wasn’t someone from the group calling them like Mr. Blackbourne or Dr. Green. And the boys were here to help out the school. I thought about it a bit more trying to recall the voice that had called them away. It sounded official and in addition there was no waver in the voice meaning that had to be someone who spoke over the intercom a lot which would be a secretary. My eyes widened thinking of my meeting with Mr. McCoy in the lobby the first day and I bit my lip. Maybe it had something to do with them being here at the school.

The bell rung and I quickly packed up my things slipping them into my bag and stepped up to Ms. Smith’s desk.

“Excuse me?”

She turned from erasing the board and her eyes widened spotting me but a soft smile formed over her lips.

“What can I do for you Ms. Sorenson was it?”

I nodded quickly and smiled politely. “May I have two extra copies of the homework?”

Her eyes widened and she smiled handing me the sheets. “Thank you for grabbing some for them.” I smiled and nodded quickly carefully tucking them into my bag before slipping out of the class room.

I soon realized why the boys had been guiding me from class to class. The hallways were cramped and people continued to push into me making me flinch. Winding through the hallways I shook every time someone’s hand touched me even if it was an accident it made me flash back to my mother and I withdrew quickly. I could feel her fingers on my arms as if she was dragging me.

Finding my way to Music Room B, I opened the door and quickly closed it behind me. My eyes prickled with tears but I was more surprised to find only Mr. Blackbourne in the room. This was a class right? I was in the right room. Mr. Blackbourne’s eyes met mine and his eyes widened.

I must have shown signs of distress because he was standing and shifting forward to me quickly. He stopped a couple of feet away as I had begun to back up and shift against the wall. Mr. Blackbourne’s silver eyes wide with worry. “Ms. Sorenson.” He put his hands out in front of him showing he meant no harm and I shook at his movement flinching. My mother’s voice crashed over me mixing with his.

“Sang.” His voice was barely a whisper but I heard my name on his lips… on her lips. “They are still in the meeting.” I watched as his brain put together the pieces. “The bell rang. You had to leave… the hallway.” His eyes widened and he stepped closer making me shift back tears slipping down my cheeks as the image appeared of her beating me in my room with her hands.
