A Different Beginning ~ Part 25 ~ Updated: 1/10/15 Late-Evening
Surprised I glanced up and shifted over to the window opening it and letting in the chilled breeze. A second later a dark figure appeared on the roof and Nathan slipped through the window.
Straightening his clothing he smiled and lightly drew me into a hug. I jumped a little but curled into his warmth once I had calmed down.
“Hey Peanut… any time you can’t sleep you message me okay?” I smiled and nodded quickly.
“Okay Honey.” I smiled and he laughed a little but quickly softened his voice to a whisper.
“Come on let’s get into bed and rest for a little while. You look tired.” He whispered and I nodded following him to the bed and I curled up with him under the covers. I suddenly felt exhausted and Nathan smiled. “Hand.” He lightly pushed some of my hair out of my face and smiled. “There we go now you are crashing.” His eyes met mine and I smiled blushing a little.
“Thank you for today.” I whispered the covers shifting around my shoulders as I got comfortable.
“Sorry about hitting your head.” Nathan grimaced and I giggled softly shaking my head.
“It was an accident.” I coughed lightly and his hand wrapped around my waist pulling me closer.
“You rest.” He smiled and I nodded before falling fast asleep with his arm wrapped around me. I was comfortable because he was here.
It was five when I felt Nathan starting to move. I opened my eyes and met his, my breath was shaky and slightly painful. “Hon-“ I coughed and a hand found my back.
“Dr. Green said it would be wearing off soon. He is waiting at school. Take it easy.” He whispered and felt myself being pushed back into bed.
“Are you going?” I whispered and he nodded stepping into my view.
“I will be outside waiting for the bus. We can sit together on the bus right? Marie won’t notice will she?” Nathan asked.
“I think we will be okay.” I whispered and coughed again and his hand rubbed my back.
“Okay. Message Dr. Green okay?” I nodded and he disappeared slipping out the window as I pulled out my phone.
Sang: Dr. Green?
I looked at the phone nervous I had waken him but there was a quick response as my phone vibrated.
Dr. Green: Pookie? Hey little love bird you okay?
Sang: My chest hurts…
Dr. Green: Okay Pookie I have the medicine waiting for you. Do you feel any better?
Sang: A little bit but it hurts to breath which makes me a little nervous.
Dr. Green: As long as you rest that shouldn’t be a problem for long little bird. Now go get ready for school.
Sang: Thank you Dr. Green
Dr. Green: Call me Sean Pookie
I blushed and slowly shifted out of my bed and stretched very slowly checking over my wounds before I moved to the bathroom to clean up. One warm shower later, I was back in my room with a skirt and blouse on. Checking myself in the mirror I moved downstairs to make a little something to eat.
To my surprise my father sat down stairs with the paper. I smiled politely and popped some bread into the toaster before turning to the fridge to take out some butter. We didn't speak the entire time as I ate my toast he left for work without a good bye and I just watched as I swallowed some toast. I thought about Erica and Jess and how they close they were and I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. Why wasn't my family like that?
