Chapter 18: The Bomb Plot (Part 2)

Fundy and Sapnap raced down the boardwalk to their beloved enderman friend, panting from the exertion. "Ranboo, we have news!" Fundy gasped. "Eret is dead, and Wilbur's possessed!" The two dreamon hunters proceeded to tell the shocked sentient all that had unfolded, from the finding of Eret's body to the dreamon consuming Wilbur.

"You know," the fox hybrid remarked, "that dreamon controlling Wilbur is a lot like the one that possessed Dream."

"What do you mean?" Ranboo asked. "Is Dream possessed- erhm, was he possessed?"

"Well, you see, it's complicated," Fundy replied. He rubbed the nape of his neck in embarrassment. "Do you remember how I told you about the time Tubbo and I tried to exorcise Dream?"

Ranboo pursed his lips together in confusion. "Kind of?"

"Well, anyway, seven months ago, Tubbo and I tried to exorcise a dreamon from Dream, and we almost died."

"Oh, yeah. Now, I remember," Ranboo said. "But what does that have to do with Dream now?"

The fox hybrid averted his eyes, and muttered, "We didn't finish the job."

Time froze as the gravity of Fundy's words sank in. If the famed dremaon hunter duo didn't finish the job, then that meant- "You never freed Dream from that dreamon," Ranboo monotoned.

Fundy shook his head. "No, we didn't."

Sapnap whirled around to face his partner, his face red with rage. "How could you not finish the job, Fundy?! You guys were the best of the best!"

"We almost died, Sapnap!" Fundy retorted sharply. "And that was no ordinary dreamon. It was transmuted- the most powerful kind on the server."

Sapnap scratched his head in thought. "So, is that what we saw at the castle with Wilbur?"

Fundy gave his partner a firm nod. "Yes. I'm sure of it."

"Okay, so let me get this straight," Ranboo interrupted. "You failed at your one job- your one job as a dreamon hunter, and then the most powerful dreamon ever starts running loose on the server."

The fox hybrid spluttered for a response. "Well, it's not-"

"And not only does it possess one evil dictator, but it body hops to another evil dictator- LIKE A FREAKING PARASITE!!"

"Ranboo, I-"

"No," the enderman hybrid growled. "You are the reason that Tubbo died in that fire. I'll never forgive you for this."

The fox hybrid was startled to say the least. Ranboo had always been such a mellow soul, never taking things personally as he seeked out the good in others. To hear him utter such harsh words was a complete shock. As the black and white sentient walked away from the hunters, Fundy struggled to find the right thing to say. "Ranboo, wait! I'm sorry! Just tell me how I can fix this!"

The creature froze. His back to his former allies, the being replied, "Dig the TNT out from under all the buildings in town, and stay out of my sight." Rendered speechless, Sapnap and Fundy could only watch as their once-friend ventured off into the woods.

*GASP!* THE BETRAYAL!! DDDD: What will Ranboo do now without Fundy and Sapnap??
