Chapter 105 - "Equipment testing," said Gu Shao in all seriousness. (1)

The first round of competition today was mathematics. It so happened that the ones competing would be Gu Xi, Gu Chenyi, and Sheng Xiuyan.

"Did you bring scratch paper and pen with you?" Worried, Gu Xi asked Gu Chenyi again immediately before they boarded the car.

"Yes, I did."

Except how worried was Xixi about him?

Thought Gu Chenyi – it was all his fault for being too sloppy on their second meeting.

Gu Xi couldn't help but smiled when she saw the look on Gu Chenyi. She patted him on his shoulder and said, "Good luck."

"Don't worry," said Gu Chenyi with a serious look.

He only joined the competition to earn Xixi's fondness. He didn't care much about doing the problem sets.

As such, his original plan was just making do with the examinations but now, he was serious.

He wanted the two braindeads over at Liming to understand what it meant to be crushed.

Having said that, Gu Chenyi glanced over at Sheng Xiuyan, "You too, do your best." Don't drag down our Xixi.

Sheng Xiuyan looked over at him, "Is that a threat?"

Gu Chenyi, "No, it's encouragement."

Sheng Xiuyan: Yeah, right.

The first round of the competition was mathematics.

Gu Xi, Gu Chenyi, and Sheng Xiuyan entered the venue.

As they walked inside, Gu Xi handed her pen and paper for the proctoring teacher for inspection after she passed through the security check point.

The proctoring teacher only flipped through them very quickly –– this kind of competitions were not the same as examinations at school. Never mind about cheat sheets, they could bring entire textbooks inside with them but that would not help if they didn't know how to get to the answer.

"Go on in." The teacher returned the scratch paper back to Gu Xi and told her where to sit.

Gu Xi quickly found her seat.

The setup of the venue was very much the same as it was last year – the individual distributed in an "S" shape and there were dividers around each seat. Each person would work on their own problem set and would not distract each other.

The only difference was that the competition this year was paperless. As such, there were not test questions printed on paper in front of Gu Xi but a display, and a device that would allow the competitions to enter their answers.

The operation of the device was very straightforward. They would first select the question, then pick the corresponding multiple choice answer.

At the start of the competition, a countdown appeared on the display, then the questions appeared.

Even though the format was different than before, that didn't matter much to Gu Xi.

After getting used to the new format after the first few questions, Gu Xi picked up her pace quickly.

In fact, she didn't even need to scribble anything on her scratch paper on some of the problems but could figure out the correct answer after doing some brief calculations in her head.

Gu Xi felt that she was going through them even faster than she did on the practice examinations.

......

An hour passed and Gu Xi completed her set of the problems.

Nevertheless, as she still had a lot of time left, Gu Xi tripled checked her answers again.

She finally turned her paper in when the time was almost up.

At this time, many others who were not yet done were still struggling on their scratch paper.

Gu Nian looked away and was about to take off from the venue. To her surprised, she noticed that both Gu Chenyi and Sheng Xiuyan were still at their spots.

Gu Xi raised her brows in surprise. She thought those two would have left an hour ago. Who would have thought that they would still be there?

Gu Xi waited for them outside the venue.

The two walked out almost at the same time. Both of them stayed until the system submitted their answers automatically before they took off.

Was it difficult?" Gu Xi as the two of them, somewhat worried.

With their speed, it didn't make sense what had taken them that long.

Gu Xi didn't feel that the questions were particularly difficult......

"No, they were easy," said Gu Chenyi in a light-hearted tone.

Gu Xi, "Then, why......"

Gu Chenyi, "I triple checked."

This must have been the first time he had ever reviewed any examinations that he had completed that he could remember.

What he wouldn't do to get high marks so he wouldn't be the one to drag Gu Xi down.

Gu Xi looked over at Sheng Xiuyan, "And you too?"

"More or less," said Sheng Xiuyan. He simply didn't want to lose to Gu Xi again over some careless mistakes of his own.

"Let's go. Let's go. It's time for lunch. You have one more subject this afternoon," said Gu Chenyi to Gu Xi as he pulled her away.

Gu Xi would be participating in two subjects during the first two days of the examinations and both of her subjected landed on day one.

The subject that afternoon was of normal difficulty as well and Gu Xi was able to complete all of the questions.
