Chapter 139 - She had seen that name before. Except it was Xie Yaobai, not Gu Yaobai. (4)

Looking at the four members from the head-lowering clan focusing on nobody knew what from the host's seat, Old Mr. Gu dropped his face, put on a solemn look, cleared his throat and said, "It's lunch time! Are you guys going to look up from your phone and eat?"

Hearing Old Mr. Gu's words, Gu Xi and the others put away their phones at the same time and all of them give Old Mr. Gu the same "docile" look.

Looking at his own docile grandsons and granddaughter, Old Mr. Gu felt a pang of happiness and could no longer maintain his strict face.

"Alright, alright. Let's all start eating."

Everybody started to eat with Old Mr. Gu's words.

Gu Xi, as usual, ate quietly.

Gu Shao, on the other hand, noticed that Gu Xi was abnormally "quiet" and looked down at her. He then frowned.

Gu Shao had noticed previously that Gu Xi acted abnormally when she ate – perhaps a habit that she had picked up while staying with the Lin's. Gu Xi barely talked when she ate. In fact, she barely even made any noises. She would only focus on eat the rice in her bowl and rarely reached out to the dishes on the table. She would only eat what was in her bowl. Even when she would occasionally reach out to the dishes on the table, she would only reach out to what was immediately in front of her while keeping herself as unnoticeable as possible.

That was how she was like when Gu Shao had just brought her home. It took a while before she got better. She would now chat with Gu Shao over the dinner table and sometimes reach for the dishes herself.

Lo and behold, she had subconsciously returned to how she was when she was with a crowd.

Truth was, Gu Xi had never noticed that about herself, until a piece of sweet-and-sour rib that she liked appeared in her bowl.

Gu Xi was a little surprised. She looked up and realized that it came from Gu Shao.

"Don't just eat the rice," reminded Gu Shao.

"Okay." Gu Xi nodded blankly, then gave Gu Shao a smile.

Gu Xi ate the piece of sweet-and-sour rib. It was obvious that Aunty Mei was the one who made it. Gu Xi wasn't sure if it was her imagination, the sweet-and-sour rib today tasted even better than usual.

"Get what you like." Gu Shao reminded her again.

"Oh."

As it turned out, Gu Xi hadn't even moved her chopsticks yet when a plate of pumpkin shortbreads appeared in front of her.

Not one of them, but the entire plate.

Gu Yanlin was the one who placed the pumpkin shortbreads in front of Gu Xi. "Try this, Xixi. I think you will like it."

Before Gu Yanlin had finished talking, Gu Yanxiao and Gu Chenyi too, not wanting to fall behind, also put what Gu Xi liked in front of her.

"You will like this glutinous rice dumpling dish."

"That one is too dry. This is amazing."

......

In just a blink of an eye, Gu Xi now had a pile of food in front of her.

Gu Xi quietly looked away from the three pairs of sparkling eyes.

They were being so nice to her.

But she really couldn't that much!

"Delicious," said Gu Xi with a pumpkin shortcake in her bowl, a glutinous rice dumpling between her chopsticks, and a mouthful of cheesecake to the three of them.

When the others finally turned away, Gu Xi stealthily pushed the plates over in front of Gu Chenyi.

"It is quite tasty. You have some."

"Hehe. Okay." Sure enough, Xixi was the closest with him.

Lo and behold, before Gu Chenyi could be happy for too long, he was caught red-handed by Gu Xian.

"Don't mind him, Xixi. Have as much as you want. He won't starve," said Gu Xian, obviously misread the situation.

Old Mr. Gu, from the host seat, also chimed in. "That's right. You don't need to share with them. Grandpa will have the kitchen make more of whatever you like."

Gu Xi, "......" No, she really couldn't eat anymore. Truly.

Looking at the docile look on his granddaughter, Old Mr. Gu was happy all over again.

Old Mr. Gu looked over at Gu Yaobai and asked, "Yaobai, how are things with you lately?'

Nobody reacted to what Old Mr. Gu had said except the spoon in Gu Xi's hand dropped straight into the bowl and made a loud noise.
