EDWARD WAS WAITING FOR ESTE when she got home. Standing at the front step of the house, a bag by his side. Carlisle was the only other one home, Este wondered where everyone else was however it didn't matter much in that moment. All she needed to know was what the hell was going on with Bella Swan.

She got out the car before parking it in the garage. Pacing towards Edward with concern written over her eyes. He looked very upset, angry even. The memory of Bella asking if she was in the wrong burnt free of her mind for a moment as she concentrated on her own son.

"You spoke to her?" Edward frowned, seeing the image in her head. Este replayed the memory for him, every word a precise detail. He winced at the mention of his murderous glare and seemed to look guilty as Este's response ran like a playback of an old video.

Edward was leaving, this much had become clear as Este saw the bag propped up on the step in front of him. Este didn't want him to go, she didn't want to see the family separated again. How long would he have to be away for? Would the threat of Bella Swan never cease? Would he feel the need to wait a decade until they moved towns or would he gather some self control on his short journey away and decide it better to come back and be with people he loved again?

"I don't know" Edward spoke softly as he unscrambled the words in Este's mind, "I'm sorry, about you having to speak to Bella and... about me leaving but in Alice's mind she sees the girl killed"

"I don't believe you would harm her" Este spoke quickly. Of course Alice's visions were never wildly wrong? Surely something terrible had contained Edward's mind. The need for blood, her blood specifically. It had clouded his better judgments. Still Este knew that her son would never give in to that feeling.

"This was different" Edward spoke more to the voice in her head than to the words she spoke aloud, "Este I completely lost myself, I could barely last the hour we sat in Biology. I wanted to kill her, I was planning how to get away with it and if I don't leave now she'll die. I can't do that"

"I know" Este murmured, "it's not your fault Edward, you'll come back... I know you will"

"Alice isn't sure what's going to happen, she probably won't be until I follow through with this decision" Edward explained, "this isn't the way I wanted things to be but I'm not going to drag you away from Forks. You've all settled in well here so the best option is for me to go away for a while"

"How long?" Este asked carefully.

"I'm not sure" Edward shrugged, "I'm going to Denali to stay with Tanya and her family. I don't want to stay away long, I'm trying to clear my head... that's all"

"Alright" Este murmured with a small smile, "you'll call?"

"Yes" Edward nodded, "I'm sorry how things have turned out, I really thought Forks would be good for us"
