IT TOOK TWO WEEKS BEFORE EDWARD MADE the decision to bring Bella over to the house. Este had seen them around the school, sitting together, laughing together. The way Bella looked at him, it was as though Este was thrown back to an entirely different time.
The gossip flew around her school like wild fire just as everyone had been aware it would. Este heard the rumours of their relationship flit between classrooms. It really shone a light on how nothing interesting happened in Forks. It was as though they'd received the most exciting news of the year. In reality, to them, Bella and Edward were just another high school couple.
The idea of Bella coming round to meet the Cullens caused complete commotion and controversy. Alice had assured them all that everything would be completely fine, after all she'd seen that it would be. Rose wasn't so sure. Even though she was aware that Bella would walk out of this particular meeting unscathed, it didn't make it right.
Este was rather inclined to agree but she didn't say anything about it. Of course she was happy for Edward and she wanted to help him in any way that she could. Seeing him happy was all she could ask for. Este had always been a pessimist at heart, maybe that was why she still couldn't see a good way out of this.
However, they were going to do all it took to welcome Bella into their home. They'd all be there, even Jasper. Este could tell how nervous the boy was. He didn't trust himself enough to believe he wouldn't snap at the first opportunity. Of course everyone else had nothing but full faith in him. Anyway, Alice would've been able to see if he would hurt Bella.
It had been Este's idea to make Bella something to eat, mainly because she was so determined to make her trip to the Cullens house a perfectly normal experience. At first she'd simply been met with disagreements from everyone except Carlisle and Alice who both thought it was a great idea. Emmett believed none of them would be able to cook anything edible since they didn't eat food and Rosalie had decided she didn't want to play any part in making the girls experience enjoyable. Rosalie was really starting to loathe Bella.
However at the end of it all, Este won in the idea of cooking Bella some dinner. So that's what left them using the kitchen for the first time ever. Jasper and Alice were somewhere else in the house, Alice was preparing Jasper for Bella's visit by talking him through what would happen.
Este had roped Rosalie into helping which left the four of them scattered around the kitchen making some sort of pasta that Este had found on a cooking channel. Emmett had been right in suggesting that they probably wouldn't be very good at it. The whole thing was a lot more difficult than it looked.
Emmett had a rather large knife at hand doing some butchering to the tomatoes that Este had given him. He seemed to be enjoying himself a bit too much, laughing each time a splash of tomato juice pooled out the side onto the wooden chopping board.
