ESTE WATCHED THE SUN RISE FROM THE BEDROOM window. Her head on Carlisle's shoulder as she traced words in light brushes on his arm. He had the side of his face rested on the top of her head, playing with her hair as the birds woke up and the sun was soon clouded by Forks' usual grey miserable days.

The white sheets were pulled over them lightly, curved to match the shapes of their bodies. Both Carlisle and Este had taken the day off. Este was sure she was taking too many days off at this point but if it meant she could spend the day alone in Carlisle's company, she didn't mind in the slightest.

They talked about nothing in particular, nothing that would bring stress or panic into either of their minds. Este felt at peace whenever she was beside him, a beautiful sensation gliding over her head and down her spine every time that Carlisle ran his hands through her hair. She had her arm stretched over his chest, her body curled perfectly against his.

There was something about doing nothing that made everything feel interesting. The two of them could lie in bed all day without the worry of care of anything else going on. Este rejoiced in the silence that lay over her house. She loved her kids more than she could put into words but she couldn't lie, they were often exhausting with their separate problems and arguments that crowded the lives of both Este and Carlisle.

She watched as the peaceful grey sky turned to rain, the rain cleared soon after before starting again. Everything was very unpredictable. Este and Carlisle talked of memories and futures and random little stories that etched their many years of living. It was probably nothing that anyone else would find particularly interesting but the sounds of each others voices was all that was necessary.

It was four when the silver Volvo came speeding into the driveway. It was then that Este knew her peace was ruined. The car doors flew open and then slammed. It was weirdly quiet but for some reason Este knew they were arguing. Este could almost feel the tension curling it's way up the stairs.

"What do you think it is this time?" Este asked lazily as she looked up at Carlisle.

"Rosalie and Edward" Carlisle replied, "definitely something about Bella"

"Go get them!" Rosalie yelled suddenly in a burst of anger, "they need to hear this"

"Great" Este turned and pressed her forehead into the crook between Carlisle's shoulder and neck, hoping she could melt away and not have to deal with whatever was going on.

Este heard someone walking up the stairs.

"We could've just called them" Emmett muttered as the children began to congregate in the dining room. It must be serious if they felt the need to sit in there. Este started to worry slightly but Carlisle remained completely calm.

Jasper pushed open the bedroom door, stared at his parents for less than a second before he turned like a flash and slammed the door behind him.

"Jesus Christ" he muttered under his breath from outside the door, "sorry... didn't know you'd be..."
