ESTE COULDN'T HEAR Mr Banners Biology class from her room, only snippets of boring information that she didn't care about. What Este was waiting for was a yell, a scream, a reason to worry. None of that came.

Maybe it was her imagination but she swore she heard Bella and Edward talking. However she quickly assumed that this couldn't be the case. Not only had the family decided that Edward continuing to ignore Bella would gain the best results but Edward could barely bring himself to sit next to the girl for an hour, never mind say something to her.

The bell rang and Este watched as her five kids walked out of school. She knew that Bella had made it based on the way they walked, the way Alice smiled and Emmett seemed happier than usual. Jasper almost seemed discontent as though he'd assumed that Edward would fail. Este knew that Emmett and Jasper had been making bets about how long Bella would survive. Este had warned them against it but she knew they'd continue their joking around anyway. They didn't see it as being as serious as the others did.

Edward turned as they made it to the silver Volvo parked at the end of the car park. He stared directly at Este's window, giving her a small smile before he disappeared into the car. She didn't know what that meant, his smile didn't say much.

Este wanted to know how successful the biology lesson had gone. Just because Bella had walked out alive didn't mean that Edward was going to continue in his task of staying in Forks. She didn't know how difficult it had been for him to sit next to Bella for an hour, how much temptation he'd allowed to wash over himself. For all Este knew, he could be leaving again. The smile didn't give anything away.

She returned home at five, earlier than she usually did. Carlisle was still at work but four of the five Cullen children were sat in the living room. The missing member was Edward, Este could hear him up in his room letting the sounds of classical music drift through the house.

"Well?" Este walked into the living room expectantly.

"He didn't say much" Rosalie replied simply, "but she survived and he's in his room so I presume that means it went well"

"Knew he had it in him" Emmett grinned.

"No you didn't" Jasper whispered warily.

"Alice?" Este asked as she looked at the girl.

"His life is at a cross roads" Alice replied, "he hasn't made a decision yet so there's a few paths his future could take, at the moment I think him leaving again would be likely"

Este sighed loudly as she sat on the sofa beside Rosalie, staring at the empty fire as though waiting for it to burst to life. She'd expected this, Edward deciding that he couldn't risk the life of the girl. Este knew that if Edward decided to leave again, she would support him through that but it wasn't the outcome she had hoped for. Este had hoped that the lesson had gone well enough to convince Edward to stay. She supposed she must've imagined Edward and Bella talking, maybe it was her minds last hope of Edward remaining in Forks.
