One text, three words
Life slapped me across the face
Bringing a new reality
People don't live foreverI only had three grandparents
When I was born
One passed from cancer
When my dad was a boyI lost two in one year
Alzheimer's and old age
They passed within months of each other
Their final step... togetherI was holding on to you, Granddad
More than I could admit
Not only did you fight for this country
You were my last grandparentA man of the highest valor
A Purple Heart from WWII
You taught me so many lessons
It's why I truly loved youI know that I'm in college
I know I'm far away
I'll never forget our FaceTime
You said my hair was prettyMy dad won't be okay
It'll take him a while
He was your favorite son
Not by his choiceI told him he can call me anytime
As long as I'm not at work
I know he needs me right now
He won't reach out to anyone elseWe knew this time was coming
You said you would "See Linnea soon"
Linnea is your wife in heaven
One you lost many years agoSay hello to Aunt Lynn for me
Tell her I miss her everyday
My heart will surely miss you too
In a different wayI hope you made it peacefully
I hope you mind can finally rest
I hope the world understand you for the good
For the true man you always wereI'll keep my table manners
Remember how to be a lady
I'll keep writing in cursive
I'll turn my hand when I pour wineWe'll have a funeral for you
Where a lot of people with gather
I'll tell your body one last time
That I love you, GranddadMay you achieve happiness in the afterlife
May your soul float above the clouds
May you hug and love your wife and daughter
For the rest of time to come
