When Slughorn announced the project for your potions class and the fact that it would require everyone to split into pairs, you instantly assumed that you'd be paired with your girlfriend, Hermione. She had other ideas. As soon as he released you all to find who you would be working on, everyone jumped up to grab their friend to work with. Before you were able to turn around to grin at your girlfriend, she had already bounded from her seat and grabbed the Ravenclaw that saw in the back corner and was consistently getting the highest or second highest scores in the class.

Shock enveloped you long enough that you were left partnering with a Gryffindor that no one else wanted to work with, partially because he smelt of dust and partially because he had routinely set alight his cauldron when trying to create a potion. You tried to keep a false smile upon your face, not wanting to hurt his feelings but your own feelings had been trampled into the cobbles below your feet.

Once class ended, you silently scurried into the hallway bustling with your peers and went to hide in the back of the library to dwell on the hurt that flowed throughout you at the betrayal of your girlfriend. It wasn't the best hiding spot as you frequented it with Hermione, so she found you in a matter of minutes.

"Why did you run off?" She questioned. "We normally walk together."

A scowl formed on your lips. "I thought you didn't want me."

It was slightly dramatic but seen as you wanted to throw a book against the wall and shout at the top of your lungs, it was fairly tame.

"Pardon?" Hermione asked.

She didn't mean to snub you. It wasn't a personal vendetta, but she had also not considered how the lack of communication on the matter may have upset you seen as you spent most other time together.

"Well, you didn't seem to care much about being with me when you were running off to be someone else's partner," you huffed, pain panging within your chest.

"It wasn't like that," she said softly. "I'm sorry if it hurt you but I just wanted to do well on this project and I know you don't care about doing well in potions, but I need to get good marks."

You crossed your arms over your chest. "I would have cared for you."

Hermione offered you a gentle smile. "I'm sorry for upsetting you."
