The roads were chaotic as everyone frantically tried to evacuate the estimated blast radius. The highways were flooded with red brake lights as every one sat in traffic. Gwen couldn't help but pick at her nails as she thought about Remy sitting at home wondering if his owner was going to make it home or not.

Tim glanced at Gwen as she seemed lost in thought "it's going to be okay, it might not even be real" Tim said trying to lighten up the mood in the shop. Gwen looked at Tim "How do you know that?" Gwen said. Tim sighed "I don't" he said in a low voice.

Once they got back to the station officers scrambled on the phone in hopes to phone their loved ones to stay somewhere safe. Sergeant Grey stood on the steps overlooking the officers.

"Listen up. LAPD has not been able to verify the alert is real. However, real or not, everyone in the city is panicking right now. So I don't care if you've been off the street for 20 years. If you got a badge, get out there. First priority
to secure sensitive targets. Next, protect the community. Ignore petty crimes. Focus on people, not property. Look, I know you're scared.
I'm scared, too. But people out there
are counting on us, and we will help them." Sergeant Grey spoke with clear authority over his voice. He wanted to sound confident but deep down he was unsure if this was real or not.

Gwen looked at Tim who was in thought he glanced over at Gwen and then Lucy "Alright let get back out there. We can't lose focus" Gwen nodded and followed Tim.

"I'm scared" Lucy whispered to Gwen, Gwen nodded "Me too, but right now we need to get our heads in the game" Gwen squeezed Lucy's shoulder in reassurance.

**
They had been driving around for minutes, stopping and helping people load up there cars, give directions, and patrol the streets. Lucy glanced down at her watch and sighed.

"Stop looking at the time" Tim said glancing through the rear view mirror "We're about to be burned up by a giant fireball." Lucy said.

Tim sighed as he started to speak "A, no, we're not. It's a false alarm. And, B, counting down the minutes wouldn't accomplish anything, even if it was real. Let's talk about something else" Lucy nodded and looked at Gwen who was looking outside.

"Detective Rivers, how long have you been a detective for?" Gwen turned her head and made eye contact with Lucy "Save the formalities for another time. We might be dying soon. Just call me Gwen. I've been a detective for 2 years now. I started off on patrol" Gwen said with a smile as reminisced the time from Boston.

"Did you do any undercover work?" Lucy said. Tim looked over at Gwen briefly, interested in what her answer was "Yes, I was on one case for a while. Never did undercover after that. Just never came up" she says.

The radio beeped interrupting the conversation between the two. Tim picked it up and answered the distress call. He recognized the address it was Amari's corner store.

**

As soon as the shop pulled into the parking lot of the corner store. Gwen sprung into action drawing out her gun as she heard gunshots come from the store.

Tim led the way into the store, stopping at the door way "Amari, it's Tim!, You alright?" He shouts over the chaos.

"Yeah, but Lewis took a bottle
to the head" he yelled over the gun shots that he continued to fire.

"Alright, just put down the shotgun" Tim says as he sees the shotgun in the distance. "They're robbing me. I got to protect my store" he pleaded out.

"We're here now, so put it down" Tim was trying hard to get him to stop shooting. "Put it on the counter. Put it down" Tim said.

"Okay. O-Okay. Alright" he gave up. Gwen sighed in relief "Now we're coming in" Gwen said she followed Tim's lead into the store.

She could hear the sound of glass breaking underneath her feet "Why don't you take him around the corner to your house?" Gwen suggested seeing Lewis with a small head wound.

Amari shook his head "No, I-I-I can't leave
my store" Gwen sighed  "It's just stuff, Amari.
The missile is coming, alright? You should be
with your family" Gwen tells him.

After some time Amari shook his head and left with Lewis to his house to be with his family. Tim walked up to the alcohol shelf and picked up a bottle of whiskey. He sighed looking down at his watch 4 minutes were left.

"Here" he said after taking a swing. Gwen shook her head as she wasn't in the mood to take a sip of the strong liquid . Lucy looks over at Gwen after sips the Whiskey "Since it's the end of the world. What's one thing you regret" Lucy said looking at Gwen and Tim.

Gwen laughed grabbing the bottle of whiskey from Tim's hands. She took a quick sip ignoring the burning sensation. Well if she was going to die she might as well feel warm inside.

The liquor burned her throat "When my ex started to abuse me i should've reported it sooner to my supervisor. But I didn't, I was scared, naive, I didn't know what to do. I let it get to the point where he would just beat me until I was knocked out. I still blame my self every day for it" Gwen said her eyes started to slightly water up. But she held back from crying.

Tim looked at Gwen immediately feeling sorry for her. No one should have to go through the trauma of being in an abusive relationship.

Tim sighs a sorrow look on his features "I'm really sorry Gwen, It's not your fault, nor will it ever be" Gwen nodded and gave Tim a smile.

The sound of Sergeant Grey's voice came through the radio interrupting their conversation "Attention, all units. Missile alert is a false alarm. I repeat the alert is a false alarm" everyone looked at each other releasing a sigh in relief.

"Well we aren't dying today" Gwen joked.

**
The chaos died down, everyone was relieved that the missile was fake. Gwen couldn't help but felt anxious that she let her vulnerable side show. It was a weakness of hers that she struggled to even talk about. But, in the moment of almost dying she let it all come out. She blamed the adrenaline, and the whiskey.

Gwen closed her locker and sighed thankful she saw another day, and thankful she got to come home to her puppy. Gwen grabbed her purse and walked out towards the parking garage.

"Hey Gwen?!" Tim called out jogging over to her. Gwen turned around stopping in front of her Jeep.

"What's up?" She said, she watched as Tim scratched the back of his head he seemed nervous "Uh great work today, I wanted to ask you something" she nodded motioning for him to continue.

She watched him pull out his phone "Can I have your number?" He asked. He wanted to cuss himself out for acting like a high schooler.

Gwen nodded and took his phone out of his hands. She typed her number into his phone, sending her self a message so she could save his number. Tim looks down at the new contact in his phone as he gives her a smile.

Oooo are Gwen and Tim moving in the right direction? What are your thoughts.
