BUCKY, STEVE, MARTA AND THOMAS were all walking in that order towards Howard Stark's Exposition later that night. Marta and Thomas had gone back to Bucky's apartment, where they would be staying for the night to change out of their uniforms, and into more casual clothes. Marta had been forced by her brother and younger sister, who had stopped by to see Marta to wear one of her only dresses, a blue one, which she paired with her high heels.
"I don't see what the problem is." Bucky started, hands in his pockets as he walked next to Steve.
"Of course you don't." Marta commented, reaching up to adjust her tight bun, which had been in since the morning. She took a swig from the flask she had hidden in handbag, her face contorting as the alcohol went down her throat.
Bucky ignored Marta's comment, watching her place her flask back in her bag. "You're about to be the last eligible man in New York." He said to Steve as they walked down a long flight of steps.
"There's three and a half million women here." Thomas said, shocking everyone with the statistic.
"How do you know that? You grew up in Wisconsin." Marta gaped, always finding new things to be surprised about with Thomas. The man in question simply shrugged.
From beside Marta, Steve spoke. "Well, I'd settle for just one." He said, glancing over at Marta while he said the words, who was fiddling with her dog tag that she had forgotten to take off. She was the girl he wanted, the only girl he wanted, and she had no clue.
"Good thing I took care of that." Bucky said, raising his arm up in greeting towards a young woman.
"Of course you did." Marta sighed, sending an apologetic look Steve's way. He had been left out by her brother. Marta was always apologizing for Bucky, and Bucky didn't understand why. Bucky had only brought along one woman that evening, in hopes that Steve would talk to his sister.
"Hey, Bucky!" The woman standing at the base of a large statue called out, waving back.
Marta glanced over at Bucky, who had a large smile plastered on his face. "Yeah, you're happy now, but just wait until the end of the night." She teased, knowing how women got when they were around Bucky.
Bucky rolled his eyes at his sister, walking closer to his date. Thomas chuckled as the woman met Bucky, the five of them walking towards the stage where Howard Stark was set to begin his Expo. "Your brother is certainly a character." He said, eating some of the popcorn he had gotten for himself and Marta.
Marta smiled. "That's one word to describe him. He's great, but he's an arrogant asshole sometimes."
Bucky whipped his head around dramatically, as he was walking in front of Marta. "Are you talking about me?" He asked, brows furrowed.
"No. Go away." Marta rolled her eyes, the group of five arriving just in time for the Expo to start. Steve, on the other side of Marta, offered her some of the snacks he had obtained, and Marta smiled, taking the food and thanking Steve. She turned around before she could see the blush arrive on his cheeks.
"Welcome to the Modern Marvels Pavilion and the World of Tomorrow. A greater world. A better world." The announcer said, his voice booming over the crowd. Music began playing, and the girl Bucky had brought started giggling.
