꧁ 𝟤𝟢𝟣𝟨, 𝗅𝗈𝗇𝖽𝗈𝗇 & 𝗏𝗂𝖾𝗇𝗇𝖺 ꧂PEGGY'S FUNERAL WAS IN LONDON. Marta and Sam sat beside each other in the beautifully decorated church, light tears falling down Marta's cheeks. The Union Jack was placed over Peggy's casket, which Marta thought was a nice touch. Steve walked past, carrying Peggy's casket. If it wasn't for Peggy, Steve would have never had the courage to pursue Marta in the first place, let alone propose to her. Peggy was everything to Marta and Steve. "You okay?" Sam asked quietly.
Marta nodded, her long blonde hair swept up halfway by her mother's pin. Her eyes lingered continuously on the framed portrait of Peggy from the war. She was always beautiful, especially while holding the utmost authority. Steve and the other pallbearers reached the church altar, and Steve found his place beside his wife. He was crying, and Marta held onto his arm. "And now, I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words." the priest said, and neither Marta nor Steve were paying attention until Sam nudged them both.
Steve's face fell, and Marta looked between him and the woman, unsure of how they knew each other. "Secret agent, worked for Fury." Sam whispered to Marta, and she nodded. She had heard the tales of Sam, Natasha and Steve's fight against the Winter Soldier.
"Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy," Marta and Steve weren't expecting that. "She had two photographs in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK, and another one, Aunt Peggy hugging Lieutenant Marta Barnes. Ghost. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related," Sharon looked right at Steve and Marta. "I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. And she said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move... it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in they eye and say 'No, you move.'"

WHEN THE SERVICE CONCLUDED, SAM went back to the hotel, and Marta and Steve stayed behind in the church. Marta still hadn't told Steve she had signed the Accords. Natasha strolled into the church, dressed in black. She had been there the whole time. "When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out that she was alive. I was just lucky to have her. Then when Marta came back, I'd never seen her so happy." Steve said, leaning against a pew with Marta beside him, Natasha across from them.
"She had you both back, too." Natasha said gently, knowing how hard this was for the super-soldiers.
Steve knew Natasha had signed the Accords. "Who else signed?" he asked, and Natasha looked at Marta. She wouldn't reveal anything Marta hadn't already.
Marta knew she had to tell Steve. "I did." she said, Steve's eyes whipping over to her.
"When?" Steve asked, eyes softening.
"Two days ago. After we got the text about Peggy. I had to, Steve. You know that." Marta said quietly, face melting.
Steve looked away. "Who else?" he questioned Natasha.
"Tony. Rhodey. Vision." Natasha listed.
"Clint?" Marta wondered.
Natasha smiled lightly. "Says he's retired." the spy said.
