Pepper knew that was the only place to honor him. Marta helped her plan the whole thing. The entire world was celebrating, and while the Avengers did so as well, they were also grieving.
The day of the funeral, Marta and Steve went to pick up their son. They had to wait a few days, because Thanos had destroyed their home and they had to find a new one. They settled on Brooklyn. Where they were raised, where they called their first home. Bucky would go with them. Marta helped set him up with an apartment, a few blocks away from the house Steve and Marta bought.
"What if he doesn't like me?" Bucky asked, wearing all black in preparation for the funeral.
Marta rolled her eyes. "He'll love you." she said, fixing the black dress she wore.
Steve knocked on the door, even though Pepper told them just to come in. It didn't feel right to intrude. Luckily, the door was pulled open by a little boy, with bright blue eyes and sharp blonde hair. "Mama! Daddy!" Steven said excitedly when he laid eyes on his parents.
Wearing a true smile for the first time in days, Steve picked his son up, bringing him away from the house out of respect for Morgan. Both of Steven's parents had come home, while Morgan's hadn't. "Hi, buddy." Steve said, his son wrapping his arms around his neck.
Steven giggled, and then reached out for Marta, who held him gladly. "I missed you, little soldier." Marta said, feeling whole again. Steven was the light of her life, the only reason she had made it so far.
"I missed you, too." Steven said, his voice muffled into Marta's dress.
Marta looked at a terrified Bucky, and she nodded at him. "Steven, Daddy and I have someone we want you to meet." Marta whispered in her son's ear, and he lifted his head, turning to where Steve was pointing.
His eyes widened, and before Bucky could say anything, Steven was already running over to him. "Uncle Bucky!" Steven cheered, forcing himself into Bucky's arms.
Bucky was terrified that he would hurt his nephew, but Marta and Steve's nods were encouraging, so he allowed himself to hug the toddler. "Hi." Bucky said breathlessly. He had definitely not expected to come home after five years to his sister having a baby. The last time they talked, she was breaking up with Steve, and now she had a toddler.
Marta took her son into her arms when she could tell that Bucky was uncomfortable, she took him back, letting her baby tell him everything he thought of. He had really missed his parents. Then he met Sam, and he loved him instantly. Marta and Steve had to sit Steven down once Marta changed him into a little suit, explain to him why everyone was at Tony's house, why his Uncle wasn't there, and why his Aunt and best friend were sad.
Marta didn't expect Steven to cry. His big emotions got the best of his little body, and he cried into his mother's neck, Marta holding him tightly. "It's okay, Jamie." Marta whispered, and Bucky heard her. Not only had she named her son after him, but she called him the nickname only she and Rebecca ever called him.
Before the funeral, Marta and Steve told Sam and Bucky about everything that had happened during the mission to bring everybody back, and during the five years before. They mainly talked about Steven, how he was born premature, how he was doing great. Steven slept in Marta's arms, holding his dinosaur as they talked. Bucky couldn't take his eyes off of his sister. He always knew she would be the best mother in the world, and she was.
It was time for the funeral. Tony had left a message for Pepper and Morgan, and she asked Marta, Rhodey, Steve and Thor to be there when she, Happy and Morgan watched it. Though Bucky was worried about watching Steven, Marta and Steve knew he and Sam would be fine entertaining the toddler for a little bit.
Then left the house, Pepper leading the way holding a floral arrangement with Tony's first Arc Reactor and her daughter's hand. She placed the arrangement in the lake, and Marta took Steven into her arms when she and Steve passed Bucky and Sam. They stood in the back with Wanda. As they watched the flowers float away, Steve had his arm around Marta, her head on his shoulder as she held their son. Peter was beside them, Rhodey and Happy in front of them.
Everyone was there, because Tony's sacrifice had saved them all. The funeral was beautiful, but perhaps the best part about it was seeing families together again. Bucky and Sam weren't fighting, Clint had his wife and children back, T'Challa and Shuri were with Okoye. Tony had done all of this, and everyone was indebted to him for the rest of their lives.
When the funeral finished, Marta knew her next adventure. Find Natasha's little sister. There wasn't much for Marta to give to Yelena, because almost all of Natasha's things were destroyed by Thanos, but she had something. Marta hugged Wanda tightly. "You gonna be okay?" Marta asked the redhead.
Wanda nodded. "One day." she settled on saying, and Marta hugged her again. Wanda promised she would call, and Marta hoped she would.
Happy checked on Morgan, and Rhodey held his godson as Marta and the others said goodbye to Thor. He was leaving with the Guardians, and he didn't know when he would be back. It seemed that many stories were ending that day, while others, like Marta and Steve's, were just beginning.
